3 years ago next month, in an intense and permanent (I have the tattoo still) ceremony, I chose to release my victimhood in return for success. At the time I figured success would give me a tv show, some modeling gigs, a book deal, a hot guy and cash. The universe had a deeper plan for me. I had a ton of energy from the past that I was clinging to. I was walking around with a "traditional" set of values, without knowing what that meant. Family comes first. A good woman takes care of her man. Home is where the heart is. These values did not give me peace or harmony, they gave me mad anxiety and the fear that I was constantly messing up. It didn't mean anything to me other than trying to please other people. It's almost like getting a tattoo of "Be kind, rewind." but no one owns a VCR anymore. The rules I was playing by were for a world that didn't exist. So instead of handing me my list of demands, the universe taught me presence, resilience, commitment, compassion and discipline. Which completely rewrote the values I clung to. Freedom requires presence. When I learned my patterns for disconnecting and numbing, I was able to sit with everything. To be present with my bad habits, my weaknesses and my power. Being able to find my own voice in the crowd over and over again. My practice is one of the things I got right. Ritual keeps me surrendered to what's in front of me and my daily practice anchors me into my truth and my power. And through this process I began to trust myself. . . . Did you forget to have fun on your path? I had a call with a fellow tantrika and we laughed at ourselves, hard. We keep creating the normal life and in one swoop of practice/shakti/authenticity, it’s destroyed. I didn’t set out on this path to recreate what I’ve seen before. It requires presence, passion, surrender, and some guts. To stay present to my bad habits. To curate and direct my passion so it’s not destructive. To surrender to what feels overwhelming or crazy- there’s no more curtain calls. This is the live show. The reward is that life is not plastic. It’s not rehearsed. I’ve never been here before. I’m fully alive. Most people are afraid to step into the gray. That’s okay. My wild soul wouldn’t let me pretend another day that I was normal or satisfied role playing in a simulated life. When I feel pain I am on my knees with tears and snot on my chin. When I feel pleasure everyone in the building feels it. Everyone’s asking you to “Surrender”, but what does it mean? I’m seeing a lot of posts on trauma. The “suck it up” message that quietly sneaks into our “goddess culture” is pretty evil. There’s no spiritual path in the world asking you to fight, to suck it up, to stop it. Deep, spiritual work is personal. It requires compassion and discipline. Trauma is wiring in the brain that’s created a loop. People can’t just stop it or suck it up. There’s a difference between people showing up at workshops trying to share their pain and not going home to do the work and people who are truly suffering and feel lost/stuck/broken. There are no guarantees, no quick fixes or hacks but it does get better. Just a gentle reminder that you’re not broken, you’re not stuck, and you don’t have to rush any process so you can “manifest”. Following someone is the best way to avoid change. I know this first hand. As a Christian I followed Jesus, but there was no transformation until I practiced and became a disciple. Feel the knowledge unfold in my body. The same with Tantra. Stop following and listen. Stop devoting yourself and start practicing. It’s not about merely agreeing. You can agree with someone and it cuts off life. Listening is not agreeing. Following is not transformational. But to sit and listen. To yourself. To a master. That is the transformation.
