December summary, part 1: Sunset and Anti-Twilight Arch in Tarvo Espoo
Sunrise and morning at the Mellsten shore in Haukilahti. It was the morning after the full moon night – so at the same time with the sunrise the moon was going down and the moon was beautifully visible.
Squirrel life. We have again garden feeding like in many years earlier, altogether five feeders. Of course, also the squirrels are there as usual. They are real gourmands, not only eating, but also collecting and hiding seeds. Our feeders have a protection system against squirrels and they are hanging on metal wires. Thus it is difficult for the squirrels to get to the feeders. However, they try, get frustrated, making angry sound, waving tails. And finally they are satisfied to pick up dropped seeds from the ground.
On Monday, we got the first snow of the season, unusual early, though about the same time as a year ago. And on Tuesday it was all gone. Today, on Wednesday It is close to 10 degrees (Celsius). So the autumn was quickly back.
Anyway, the garden feeders are now in place. They became right away popular. Blue tits, great tits, coal tits, tree sparrows, green finches, black birds, jays, woodpeckers and others …. and of course squirrels.

Porvoo, an old city in Southern Finland, is one of the cities in Finland having still a wooden Old Town. The oldest houses can be nearly 300 years old. This post shows the old town of Porvoo in autumn colours.
Helsinki Festival is about three weeks event, this year it was from August 17 to September 2. A part of it is Night of the Arts, always on one Thursday in August. It means that the arts go literally to the streets providing all kind of performances from late afternoon till midnight: music, theatre, reading, painting. During the Festival there are also huge amount concerts and many kind of art events. The pictures are from Huvila Festival Tent (Huvilateltta), where two Finnish band Väärä Raha and Saimaa Orchestra performed and also together. The three last pictures are from Night of the Arts.
The new art museum in Helsinki, Amos Rex opened on Thursday, this week. The first exhibition is “Massless” by the Japanese group teamLab. It is interesting and excellent – a modern digiart work.
The new artmuseum, Amos Rex, will open tomorrow, Thursday. So still one st from the Lasipalatsi Square.
Amos Rex is a new art museum right in the centre of Helsinki. From the Amos Rex info pages:
“A new private art museum with unique architecture will be opened in central Helsinki at the end of August 2018. Amos Rex will be a meeting place for art and urban culture, consisting of new underground exhibition spaces, the old Lasipalatsi (glass palace) from 1936 and its Bio Rex cinema, as well as a vibrant event forum on Lasipalatsi Square, which will serve as the roof of the exhibition hall.”
The roof forms different shapes like cylinders on Lasipalatsi Square. People use those for exercising, skating or just for sitting.

Living on a brown knapweed. The brown knapweed seems to be a real nectar flower, much more than its garden relatives like perennial cornflower or cornflower. Butterflies, honey bees, bumble bees and hoover flies are regular visitors. One can also speculate that it is prettier and more beautiful than its garden relatives.
