“I trust you, sweetheart. But if you get in real trouble, make sure you call me.”

“Of course, Mom. You’re the one person who would know how to get out of trouble better than anyone.”

“Come on, it’s nothing new. I’ve accepted it.”

“Just know I will be just fine.”

“I better not, but I know you. You’re always causing some sort of trouble. It’s unavoidable.” 

“Ouch Mom, I’m offended.”

“I know. I trust you, Chris, but not everyone else. I want you to come home.”

“Don’y worry. I’ll always come home. I’m not someone you have to worry about.”

“Why not? Who are you spending your nights with?”

“Some friends. Don’t worry Mom, you taught me the best ways to defend myself.”

“But I am worried about you. I know what’s out there in the world.”

“I’m not worried about the dangers out there.”

“You need to be careful out there. You don’t know who else is out there causing trouble.”

“Oh, you don’t need to worry about me, Mom. I’ll be just fine.”

“What kind of business at three in the morning?”

“Just seeing some friends.”

“Thanks. Good luck dealing with Dad’s new girlfriend.”

“I think I can handle Dad’s new girlfriend just fine.”

“I’ll ask Mom about it I guess.”

“And I’ll ask Dad.”

“They shouldn’t have kept it from you.”

“Why would Mom and Dad keep that from me? You got to know…”
