You just have to respect Camilla Hect's ability to have the narration's "camera" pan to her and for her to be doing some out of pocket shit. In the first book she casually walks through a door while handcuffed to Harrowhark "kill everyone now!" Nonagesimus. In the second book she is just there on a random ass empty planet, decked out with the whole rambo surival outfit. The entire third book is just an endless loop of found family drama and flashbacks until Camilla is like "aight, let me pull a Joanne d'Arc real quick".

Gideon in ntn really didn't change a lot, the situation was just hella stressful and we were watching her from Nona's perspective.

I know this sounds strange but I think there’s an argument to be made for immortality as a disability in The Locked Tomb. There’s a sentiment in disability studies, which is basically “everyone becomes disabled if they’re lucky enough to grow old.” There are things you lose with age, or things you carry for longer than you can bear. Cytherea is the most obvious example, having been very sick before becoming immortal, and therefore forced to endure chronic pain for thousands of years. But there is also the inability to die in itself as a disability. We see characters who want to die but cannot. Gideon is brought back as a revenant despite her wishes, and she is bound to a body which has been modified in ways that take away her agency (Kiriona mentions Ianthe was able to “shut [her] off” — see also Alecto, who has essentially been shut off in the tomb). There is also Ianthe, whose self-healing body tormented her before Harrow grew her a new arm. The ability for the immortal body to endure through constant and unbearable pain — yes it is technically an ability, but it certainly feels like a disability, right?

Anastasia is THE ghost haunting the lockedtomb narrative. Failed the lyctor trials because she could not bear to ask her cavalier, someone she loved, to die for her. Her punishment for that act was to be asked to guard the tomb and die for Alecto, who swore a cavalier oath to her quietly in the cold dark. Anastasia was too human and Alecto wasn’t human enough and so they got sent into the dark together to waste away. And she died. But she’s the only Cavalier whose name is remembered by her house!!!!! The Ninth was never supposed to exist but carried on and on for a Myriad because of the resilience and love and devotion Anastasia, the only human on the Mithraeum, had for the world.
