Two days later, Coco is back in Marcus's office, this time with his daughter.
"No way." Mia says, crossing her arms over her chest.
"It wasn't a question." Marcus retorts.
"I'm twenty-six years old, I don't need a babysitter. I've managed without anyone my whole life." Mia replies, seething with rage.
Coco fidgets uncomfortably in his chair, listening to them argue as if he weren't even there.
"I know that, mija. But you're too reckless, and people aren't always kind."
"No shit ? Thank goodness you told me, Dad. I had no idea men could behave like jerks." Mia replies sarcastically.
Marcus sighs and slams his palm down on the desk. Coco almost jumps.
"What did you expect, hm ? You never listen to me. You turn down the guys every time I ask them to accompany you."
"I expected you to mind your own business !" Mia exclaims.
"I'm your father, it is my business."
Mia snorts.
"As if you know what that means."
Marcus loses his patience, ignoring the pain that this remark causes him.
"That's enough. I'm not giving you a choice. Coco will follow you wherever you go, and I swear if you try to lose him, I'll stick a fucking tracking device to your ass."
Coco's eyes widen, and he sits up straight in his chair once more.
In a way, it's almost reassuring. To see that he and Letty aren't the only ones with a rather... turbulent relationship.
"At least you chose a sexy one."
Coco looks up in surprise at Marcus's daughter, who is staring at him through her long lashes.
She leaves without further ado, slamming the door behind her.
"Don't even think about it." Marcus warns him, glaring.
Coco swallows.
"I'm here to work, sir. Only to work." He replies immediately.
Marcus nods briefly.
"Well, good luck." He mutters before lighting a cigarette. "You start tomorrow. For now, Angel will show you around the house, even though we won't be staying here long. And he'll explain how everything works." He says, looking exhausted.
Coco nods and stands up after a polite smile.
With one hand on the door handle, Marcus calls out to him.
"And Coco ?"
"Yes, sir ?"
"I don't care how you do it, but I don't want you to let her out of your sight. Don't be fooled, she'll try to lose you as soon as she gets the chance."
Coco nods again.
"Yes, sir." He replies before leaving the office, closing the door behind him.
In the corridor, Angel is waiting for him, a smile on his lips.
"You meet Mia ?" He guesses and chuckles when Coco nods, a look of surprise on his face. "It's always like that between them. You'll see, you'll get used to it eventually." He says, patting him on the back.
Well... This promises to be intense.
