Marrissa Paternoster (singer and guitarist) shreds insanely like. every song has an intense guitar solo. cannot stop shredding.
her vocals are really unique and exaggerated in a way? It gets deeper over time. it can range from like a pitched throaty kind of high to a deep yowl? i cannot explain it, but if you listen to a couple songs youll see what i mean

shes very short and has had the same eye-covering shag haircut for like....10 years. god i fucking love her
despite the name screaming females does not have a lot of screaming in it. they are a lil screamy in the beginning but its in like...intense moments. It fits u kno? When u gotta rock out!
music ranges from like really straightforward punky hard rock dive bar music (listen: boyfriend) to now very complex and instrumental indie (listen: chamber for sleep) and everything in between
their energy (ESP their live energy) is so good you will have a rockin time just watching videos
Marissa is also a very good detailed artist and she draws all the album covers. shes publishing a collab graphic novel soon! i am a very big fan of her weird detailed wacky art. Example:
I think they are honestly pretty solidly established in underground/indie rock scene
Steve Albini produced one of their albums (Ugly) and says good things abt them :)
King Mike (the bassist) also runs the diy record label State Champion Records!! which i am a fan of and have some very cool artists signed
Jarrett (drums) makes shirts! and skates. i think. sometimes.
I RECCOMEND the album Ugly (it was the album that made me fall in love with them) and also Rose Mountain (arguably their indie magnum opus) but their more punchy rock is in their earlier albums (Power Move, What If Someone Was Watching Their TV?) and my favorite songs imo are Burning Car, Pretty Okay, Extinction, High, Laura & Marty, Fantasy Lense AND YES MANY OTHERS.
