the more i learn french the more i realize that i don't know english in the first place

I was reading "George Washington's Secret Six" by Brian Kilmeade and Don Yeager and they mentioned that Tallmadge's camp got raided by the British on July 2, 1779, killing 10 of his men, and capturing 8 more, and 12 horses. One of the horses was Tallmadge's and as it was still dressed for riding, included some papers from other spies.
According to Tallmadge's own memoir, after Washington's retreat from New York in 1776, he asked to retrieve his "favorite horse" that he left tied to a post. Ben Tallmadge loves his horses!- and he should seeing that he was in the cavalry.
Evidently, I think he was more stressed by the fact that there were important spy documents on his horse now in British hands, but I imagine his response to his horse being stolen being something like this:
Ben: Where tf is my horse
Some random private: It got stolen
Ben: wdym it got stolen?!
Ben: *is held back from fighting through the entirety of the British army by himself just to get his horse back*
