My Most Wanted Leather Totes
High quality large leather tote is your ultimate work/travel companion. I love those made in supple grained leather with enough zip/slip/concealed pockets to put all things away - organized with style.
The following five bags are on my absolute desire list - none from world-famous fashion brands, yet in my opinion, they deliver the most value with durability and class that will guarantee a prime seat in your wardrobe for a long long time:
1. Cameron tote by Tory Burch: $350 - Entry-level utility tote with 2 main compartments separated by middle zipped dividing pocket plus 4 (yes, 4!) external slip pockets in wool. Well, that certainly adds a little twist on the traditional all leather exterior, in a good way!

2. Marylebone tote by Aspinal of London: At $1089, this quintessentially British babe is made in sturdy Italian calf leather. The red/beige combination is so strikingly beautiful, not to mention practical top zip closure, 2 concealed side pockets and 3 internal pockets to store away your smartphone, diary, ipad, netbook...talking about eye-catching carry-on luggage...

3. Eliot maxi tote by Smythson: $2695 - To celebrate this British classic's 125 anniversary this year, the Eliot Collection perfectly blends sophistication with practicality. 2 full-length external slip pocket with a front zip pocket, this roomy tote/carry-on has style that fits both women and men. My particular fav is the black/dark brown combination.

4. Signature tote by Frank Clegg: $680 - After separating from the Lotuff brothers, leather connoisseur Frank Clegg has continued to invent new styles that speak Made in USA in weight. (the Monsieur Troy is my other fav, but that's a duffle nonetheless) Simple and elegant, the leather will age gracefully for sure. My only suggestion is to add Sunbrella lining with pocket like they do for the shrunken leather version, plus a couple of external slip pockets would be fantastic! But I am more than happy the way it is for now!

5. Villa tote by Bown; GBP795 (approx.$1280) - This little known British brand has caught my attention for a while. With only a handful of bags to choose from, Bown's style speaks for classic quality. Rhubarb and smalt blue are the ones I particularly suggest. Compare to the others mentioned above, this bag is more suited in a leisurely scene.

Funny how we all think we are unique. Especially so when it comes to fashion. Look at those dressed up individuals shot on street outside Fashion Week as if they are walking on an unorchestrated runway show, but truly they merely reflect some well polished images from head to toe. I don't mean to pan the entire fashion industry, because even behind those seemingly familiar faces, hairstyles, apparels, accessories, a hint of creativity endures. But sadly they are not drastic enough to make a profound difference or a point-tipping leap in human history.
When it comes to fashion sense and judgement, we all possess a certain degree of relativity of others people, like forces. But if they are all the same (or infinitesimally small different), no matter what the magnitude that force is, we all stay on the same spot relative to each other. So individuality to drag oneself from the herd, well think again, because everyone else is doing just the same - the result: we all resemble the image of a fashion victim.
Away for a few days...and back to work more
Oh well...
read, read, read...cut and paste, resize, rearrange...type, type, type...
Writing reports on some subjects that not interest me...despicable, isn't it???...Or just my helpless moaning again...because the truth is I really DON'T know what exactly interests me! Someone (and also my dad) advised me while on trip about finding my future career...follow your heart and find what I really want to do. The problem is...I simply don't know...I just know what I DON'T like!
Consider I am still relatively young, maybe I should embark on a road trip. I mean, really just me driving around the country, as a way to self discover. Maybe finding a few fill-in jobs on the go just to earn some extra bucks. Well, that's an exciting thought, but damn difficult to put it real!
In the meantime, back to mundane work
Stephen Fry gives advice to 18-year-olds, yet the message is appropriate for people of all ages
What a fantastically enlightening interview presented by Stephen Fry. I cordially start to admire him, because he truly, in my opinion, possesses many valuable qualities - knowledgeable, open-minded, eloquent, witty - makes him deserve to be called a "national treasure" in England (yet he once expressed wariness about that title). His approach and attitude towards life is inspiring. Although I can't entirely agree with some of his comments, many of broader aspects he advocated in the interview like avoiding self-pity and egoism, importance of travel and social interaction, kindness and understanding...should sincerely be appreciated and practiced in life.
I think the ingeniousness of his speech is not limited in the contextual level, but the clarity and eloquence in the way it is delivered simply makes this speech much more engaging. He surely has a charm, and that's why he's so dearly loved by his friends, colleagues and audiences.
This speech will be included in my little personal collection to be listened again, hopefully, many times in the future. Meanwhile, I think I should follow his advice to broaden the magnitude of life...So 'til next time!

just talked to boss
I'm such a twat!!! My boss must think I'm an idiot, childish or something...I nearly cried over the phone when he asked me if everything's okay (with regard to my delayed report)...Well, the mental battle over the last few weeks really made me think my mental tolerance is just as an adolescent. Oh Gosh! I REALLY REALLY REALLY need to learn how to control my emotions, I mean, seriously!!!
okay...Keep Calm and Continue Working...
Despite being a commercial, I nevertheless LOVE the message this lip dub version conveys...Well, happy Grandparents' Day, and CALL THEM MAYBE :D
"but you got cookie...so share it maybe!!!" oh dear, can a cookie monster get any cuter than that???
ROBOTS OR DINOSAURS?
ROBOTS...forward looking!
Have to say, despite all the success of Psy's summer anthem, Gangham Style, I couldn't help thinking that part of it is contributed by a team of promotional talents, led by Scooter Braun (yes, the man behind Justin Bieber and this summer's another music wonder, Carly Rae Jepsen "Call Me Maybe") to push this viral phenomenon go crazier.
Expect more music industry marketing tactics presented after their collaboration being announced? Oh Yes...so far, an official Psy's Youtube channel established, his MTV Awards appearance, various interviews around the US and massive media exposure from GMA to CNN (WhAT? that's right - it's actually clever to raise a simple money-driven music collaboration on to a whole 'international' level)...well, these day you have to bring something onto the table in order to play, right?!
Just one request, PLEASE do NOT make a 'Psy ft Bieber' song...But will Scooter forego an opportunity of bringing 2 of his biggest 'hit' cash cows together? I seriously question that!

2am hyper sober
...a sudden turn from the hugely depressing state just a couple of days ago...WHY is that???
Gosh, I can't even pin down this feeling of incredible energy at this late hour of night - after watching ultra funny Gangham Style by Psy (of course the super massive viral over the summer) + tons of funny parodies & wedding dance adaptations + a great remix version!!! Youtube is a great sobering device to keep me going...even better than my old coffee + chocolate remedy! HA!
OMG...this remix is total GENIUS...probably the BEST follow-up remix of ALL TIMES...waiting for it to hit HUGE :D
Gangham Style: the Oregon Duck parody - undoubtedly the cutest and funniest one online!!!
Gangham Style: Psy's MASSIVE viral music video - hottest music property this summer!
naive and mawkish?
Wondering whether all my moaning is simply a mawkish whining, an empty derivation from doing anything useful?
Maybe sadly yes.
Was checking on Craiglist and realised I am capable of doing any of the jobs advertised...a pathetic representation of my uselessness? Well, at least I still have SOMETHING to do at the moment, so better crack on that one instead of wondering endlessly in my deep sea of imagined deprivation (But due to my poor performance so far, I seriously doubt I will get ANY good response later - well, too late for that now). Better crack on!

Lunchtime mental struggle
So another demonstration of my unstable mood-swing.
This morning after all the internal struggle and email sent to my boss simply saying I need to extend my deadlines for a few more days, I tried hard to concentrate working on this report. While writing, my mind has constantly drifted into this critical role, as if assessing my work live from a third-person point of view, saying "Gosh, that's crap work, what you are written is just like copying materials from other reports! The wording is repetitive and uninteresting, the general layout is unimaginative, the overall look is unprofessional..." So my concentration is torn and keeps drifting away.
At about 1:30, I decided to take a break and cook some lunch. Normally, this is one of the rare occasions I could forget other things and calm my mind (the other is hiking), because I am doing something that I feel confident with and my mind may be preoccupied with imagines and tastes of good dishes coming out. But somehow today, the cooking remedy fails to work. The eggplants turned soggy and stuck on the frying pan, the color wasn't right...and after I finished cooking and sat down, I sat down and momentarily felt losing appetite at all. But my stomach was craving for food, so I managed to eat, despite constant inner urge to throw the food in front me into trash bin. Maybe the dish wasn't that bad after all, but it simply tasted wrong to me at the time. Again, another strong urge preventing me from throwing the food away because it would be extremely wasteful. Mental torture and struggle again...
Maybe it was a subconscious reflection of my loath on self-deficiency. My preoccupied mental struggle on how to deal with my dad's upcoming trip, to face my boss...to reveal my mental status to them? Would I just give them impression as a coward which may be imprinted in their mind forever? Or I shouldn't bother them with my problems because every single person on this planet earth has enough trashy worries of their own? The problem lies in me, so it's not fair to burden them with my struggles...But clearly that debate has influenced my performance as a social agent and human being, so should I alert them because this is responsible to let my boss know why I perform so poorly and my dad know what's going on in my funny little brain?...Oh I don't know...my mind is clouded with fragment of thoughts...
Life of a 'manic depressive'
I don't know how to label this piece of written work - perhaps it's a review, after watching 'The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive', a two-part documentary presented by Stephen Fry, whom despite huge success in the show business, had suffered (or probably is still suffering) from manic depression, or as what he calls it in the program, the bipolar disorder. But my main aim is to try to share some of my thoughts and personal experiences from the past so hopefully (as always) I can:
1) Identify the problem that has been bothering me for so long
2) Compare with those described in the program
3) Find a coping mechanism so I may get back to a normal life as soon as possible (although I doubt this last point will ever happen on me, but we'll see)
Throughout the program, I managed to connect some of my inner feelings with those presented on screen. As all interviewees explained, they do experience 'episodes' of mood swing, some more often and more dramatic than others. One lady recorded her mood on a scale from +3 to -3 on a daily (or weekly basis) with notes on the symptoms present on a chart, which I find it a very useful and visual technique, not just for her own account, but for those around and wish to help her to understand the mental experiences she's been through (I think I should borrow that technique too). She said during her episodes of 'high-mood', she was creative and energetic, get work done at incredible efficiency, while experiencing 'lows', she could lie in bed for 17 hours!
I too sometimes undergo pockets of highs and lows, though far from the extreme illustration as she described, maybe I simply am not as creative and productive as she can be, or just don't suffer from full-blown mental swing as she does. But my 'highs', which occur very rarely in my pathetic unproductive life so far, also feature energetic positivity. For example, I remember the night before my A-Level Geography exam, I spent 5 hours from 10pm to 3am the next morning, flipping through 2 big folder's materials page-by-page and crumbling everything into my head. Despite late hours and the alarming need for a good rest, I felt so pumped with this simple knowledge absorbing process, and lucky for me (or thank my then-decent photographic memory), I got nearly a full mark on that. So the BIG highs can really be beneficial indeed.
But the lows could be devastatingly toxic. That's where A LOT of the problems stem from. I don't want to label myself as 'manic depressive' or 'bipolar disorder', partly because I feel that what my symptoms were far milder than those diagnosed and featured in the program, and also I don't want to use that label as an excuse for the indecisive, self-unconfident, even lazy behaviours that I often present. It may also be a hallucination, I think, once I put this label on myself, it's an easy escape, throw all the problems on that, try to get sympathy from other people and not to fight as hard as I should. I know the very lazy nature I am embodied and I dare not to tempt it in that way.
Going back to the program, many disordered interviewees featured have attempted suicide. That thought never happened to me. The reasons, I think, are: First, I was never courageous enough to end my own life. Second, I have always had this strange little thought that I would never pass on the age of 25, since I was about 6 or 7. Why 25? I don't know. Maybe since I was little, I'd always expected to have experienced all the 'good' bits in life - like how to properly acquire and utilize knowledge, how to love, how to have fun - by the age of 25. And after that, it's almost wasteful to go through all the burden and inefficient part of life, so I may as well just end life at 25, no point attempting to push the deadline any earlier. Third, I have, what some may call it (so as Tony Slattery calls Stephen Fry in the program), a strong 'moral obligation' of good behaviour. That involves to socialize and interact with people appropriately, disguise our own feelings, even from those closest to us.
For me personally, I remember learning to 'socialize' with the adults since a very young age, almost being proud of 'not talking like a child'. Yet I only realize how that I was never truly happy because all of that was just acting and pretending. And what's worse is that I lost the opportunity to learn to interact and grow (emotionally) like an ordinary child. All the adults - teachers, family, parents' friends - thought I was a model child: obedient, well-behaved, diligent, clever. But even at the age of 9 I started to feel something went wrong: partly because I was the student prefect at school, fellow students all thought I was some kind of teacher's pet, and I always kept a straight face. I couldn't interact with them well. So I was unpopular, I didn't know how to have fun and interact nicely with people my own age, and sadly this problem still hangs today.
Yet on the outside, I continued to pretend all is going well. I never presented my personal feelings to my parents or my grandparents, or anyone. I almost live in this 'double life' that while I pretend to be calm and under control on the exterior, my self-doubt, hallucination of a better life indulging deeper inward. No channel of unleash my inner burdens, except spending hours reading random books, in front of TV, and later on, in front of a computer, taking in all sorts of information because I feel 'empowered' by acquiring information and feeling superior when present it to others when they don't know. Also, being along and absorbing information is kind of like having a relationship, because I wouldn't feel so alone. I constantly imagine that I am also being interviewed in a program or as part of a cast of a fabulous movie I just watched. So the hallucination side also kicks in and occupies the emptiness left from real-life social experience.
Interestingly, many of those featured in the program have managed to have a high-flying career in their earlier life, despite being shadowed over by manic depression. They establish social status and financial means to 'afford' all the costs when entering depression. Like Robbie Williams and other celebrities dosing recreational drugs, Stephen Fry indulging in shopping spree, and someone (can't remember his name) going through more than 30 different treatment to deal with his disorder. So why can't I, and I don't even suffer from severe chronic symptoms as they do, for crying out loud! Of course, as I should aware of it, this only comes at an incredibly high price, attached by outrageous self-drive and hard-work, and astonishing self-control when things start to fall apart. Also, as the program shows, many of them do not wish to give up the manic elements in exchange of a normal life, because a lot of their success is actually built on the overwhelming mood-swing they love-hate so much.
So Maybe instead of admitting my depressive problems I should just find a way to commercialize my energetic highs and build a financial foundation first? That way, even if the emotional element does not go well, at least I and my family can have something to rely on. Just hopefully I can find some solitude from hard-work. It's more practical than empty worrying like a mindless zombie. So get myself together and kick some ass!!!
[For those who also think you suffer from bipolar disorder or general mental instability, I high recommend this documentary - only 2 hours in total, but you will find some great deal of clarity and explanation. Hope it helps to shape a better future!]
