update on simon: we’ve been on hold for 45 minutes and no one is fucking answering the goddamn EMERGENCY line so we’re on our way to Angel again. i’m beyond pissed. plus our landlord is not happy about the possible further delay in rent.

the bills are gonna rack up and if he needs surgery it’s $4,000. this is my roommate’s Emotional Support Animal, so any donations would be beyond greatly appreciated and would be going to help both simon and his dad’s well being. we do not want to put him down but if we don’t have the funds that is what may end up happening.

When I was about 12 or 13, I was talking to (who I thought was) a 13 year old girl named Cassie on DeviantArt. She still has an account to this day.

I believed Cassie, because she sent me lots of selfies of her doing different things, she sent me videos of her little brother, I even talked to her on the phone.

It turns out, Cassie was not Cassie. Cassie was Cassie’s mom.

I was talking to a woman in her late 30’s, early 40’s. She was using her daughter to catfish not just me, but other children -both male and female. It was disgusting.

I figured this out only when my dad took my phone and saw that I had been talking to this woman and did some researching for himself. Then he called the police from the area she lived in. They had recieved multiple reports of this, and apparently, since she had not had contact with a child, all they could do was take her electronic devices from her.

That was when I realized that all of those stories “Cassie” made up about being “grounded” from her stuff, was really just the police confiscating everything. At one point, she complained to me because she dropped her phone in some cereal; then, another time, she said she never had a phone in the first place. Hmmm.

I don’t know if this is the same in every state, taking away electronics when an ADULT is catfishing a CHILD (a little bit of an easy punishment if you ask me), but maybe I wasn’t told the full of it. I don’t know.

She also moved accounts multiple times (about 5 times a month), likely to avoid the police’s efforts to get her to stop. interacting. with. children.

Anyways, here’s the catch-

Cassie asked for my address multiple times.

I would post something about how I didn’t have bug juice where I lived- “Give me your address, I can send you some!!” I’m glad I had enough sense to tell her no, I don’t need you to send me anything.

But it kept going on. She kept asking me over and over.

I was lucky it stopped when it did. I’m surprised that cps never took away “Cassie”’s poor daughter and newborn son. It’s disgusting.

So what I’m trying to tell you from this story, is-

Even if you ask for a picture of them doing something completely random, and they send it to you, it could very well be their son, daughter, niece, nephew, etc.

Putting two people in complete control of another person (who is particularly vulnerable and has few legal rights) and then having no oversight for the whole arrangement is the absolute worst idea.

less isolated familial structures in general

children being made aware of how they should and shouldn’t be treated

Some form of child protection services that don’t just believe the parents and assume a child is lying when they report abuse

- These communities are not necessarily connected by an biological ties. In a lot of these multigenerational ‘families’, including people in the family who are not relatives or married into the family is totally normal. This has always created a lot more space to support people without families, support people who do now want to partner up and to create communities in which couples who can not have children (like some queer couples but not all & other couples too) can be a part of child raising. 

- Having a lot more young people around often means young people learn from each other. In many cultures young people form a non-hierarchial group that learns together and can do a great deal without adult supervision. 

The nuclear family doesn’t just facilitate abuse, it facilitates hierarchy. It’s a training school for obedience to authority. 

Now, which system would push such a training school strongly so it could get docile obedient citizens? Which system whould push the nuclear family. 

I’m not saying it’s capitalism but it’s capitalism. 

And then there’s the fact that the 2 parent, nuclear family can be most easily pushed into the pattern where one adult works an extremely exhausting job many hours a day that leaves that adult hardly capable of doing anything else, while the other adult takes on all the other things that adult would otherwise have done: care for children, clean the living space, prepare food, prepare clean clothing, etc. for free. What we know as traditional gender roles. 

This way capitalism gets one intensely loyal worker who feels ‘responsible’ for ‘supporting a family’ while all the work to keep that worker going is done for free by an unpaid worker in the home.
