I've been hesitant to post current images of the AE86, mainly because the vlogs are a year behind. There's a lot more pain and misery to come with the videos, so id like to hold off and release pics as the vlogs progress. Most of the upcoming videos will have substantial progress with the car, and I'm looking forward to getting them out there, there's more Barry welding, more surprises and eventually, we get to this state. The car is back rolling and its finally on its wheels so I felt I should share a teaser. This is a current pic of how it looked this evening. I'll post a few more when the videos start to catch up. Safe to say I'm delighted that its back on four wheels after nearly three years. We still have a long ways to go, but it's getting there. Its been one hell of a journey so far. In these uncertain times, it’s hard to know what way things will go in the world. For some of us, getting out to the shed was the best way to switch off, get away from the world. Unfortunately, our “shed” is just a little too far for us to travel to at the moment, and it makes me realise how fortunate we are to have a place like to call our second home. In these photos, two mates, one of these lads, is unfortunately not with us anymore but it’s this shed that brought this friendship together, a common interest and a place to hang out vent your problems and have the craic. You might have a similar story to this one. You might be fortunate to have a space like this with your mates. There are sheds and garages identical to this one all over the world. A place where friendships are born and incredible cars get built, and friends keep each other in check. Sheds are cold and damp in the winter, and too hot in the summer! Regardless of the climate, fantastic stuff comes out of these places, amazing friendships, long-lasting mates and life lessons. For the people that have a space to work on their cars with their mates, let’s not take it for granted once things get back to normal. This is the Bride D1 Ae86 Levin which was imported to Ireland back in 2007/08; it ended up getting reused as a competition-spec drift car in Ireland before eventually meeting its faith at a round of the Irish drift series called "Prodrift". The car has gained a lot of popularity on places like Tumblr and Instagram over the last few years. Ryota earned the nickname "Crash King" for famously losing the BN sports kit at most events. His Levin was a great example of arguably the coolest era of Japanese drift style; it looked badass on track. Many people outside of Ireland were unaware of its location or its story after Japan. It would have been a great car to see preserved, but just like many Drift cars of the time, it was used and eventually killed. At least it died being used as intended, back then it was just another impressive import from Japan, one of many to flood the Irish market. It sat in a field in Ireland for the last 10+years, but our friend @paddy3sg86 86 ripped it out over the weekend and has plans to try and revive it, or at least use some of the shell for an inspired build. Many of us loved this car before we even really knew much about it. It's cool that some of it still exists and I look forward to seeing what Paddy does. @ryota.yuasa has an IG account and has posted old memories of the car; it must be weird seeing your 86 end up on the other side of the globe and resurface again. You can see his signature on the roof, even to have that piece alone would be great to have. Massive thanks to Rob and the crew at @trackdays_ie trackdays_ie yesterday for another awesome event. It's hard to describe just how much fun this stuff is to someone who has never driven on track. Until very recently I was one of the guys. I had been around Mondello many times as a passenger, but actually driving and pushing yourself, finding better lines, surrounded by the most diverse collection of cars, its ridiculous amounts of fun. The Civic was at home as usual and didn’t skip a beat all day, the March nearly lost a CV joint, but not before we got a good few hilariously fun laps in, I had to drive the March home and up to work this morning so we had to back off. @fastbarryracing killed his Integra but that didn’t stop smiling all day. Highly recommend this kind of carry on to anyone that has ever been curious. We are also looking forward to bringing the recently acquired EK4 sir out at the @trackdays_ie event this Sunday. The Civic is at home on at Mondello and reminds us just how much fun it is to push a car to the limit on a race track without worrying about the law.
