As much as the “Aftg is badly written/nora is a bad writer” jokes can be funny (I’ve even occasionally made them myself) I think the much better phrased version (that I think is what most people, hopefully, actually mean) is that Aftg is not written for most people. It is not bad writing that so many crazy insane things happen and it doesn’t seem real, it is not bad writing that the MC is often inaccurate or guided by his own ideas and prejudices, it is not bad writing that the characters leave out important details. It is just something you are not used to. That most people aren’t used to, and that’s okay. Aftg is not written for what I like to refer to as “the general public”. It is written for a subsection of those people that have the ability to adapt to new ideas. I also think that just because you do not like something does not mean it’s bad. I’ve recently seen a lot more people make this joke/say this about specific lines or scenes where (especially in the main trilogy) the MC focuses on the seemingly unimportant. Which it may be unimportant, to you. It’s clearly important to the MC though, and that shows you something about that character, which makes it important.
