Dr Jude

“I never had one before.” Jane said, now knowing she hadn’t tried lots of things. “Sir and Ma’am never gave me one. They gave me cups to drink from and Nelly says it was probably nutrition drinks. I liked it, it’s very different from milk even though it looked like milk.” She explained, gesturing with her hands like she was holding a cup. “Asclepius is my dad, I guess.” She was still not 100% sure on what that meant.

Jude paused for a moment as he tried to figure out what the girl was going on about - sir and ma’am? He was going to ask, but sure that this had something to do with the “be delicate” note on her doctor’s notes. A smile took over his face quickly however as Jane confirmed what he thought was true, and he took a step back from him. “Well, well! I thought so!” He beamed happily. “That makes you my little sister then. I’m Jude, it’s really nice to meet you Jane.”

“No, I heal myself. I can heal other people too.” Jane took a seat, letting her leg sway a little. “Nelly knows lots of things and she’s taught me some of them. Yesterday we learned how to make sandwiches. I never had one before then.” She explained excitedly. 

“Wait, what?” Jude paused for a moment as he looked at the patient, tilting his head to the side a little. “I’m so confused right now and I’m sorry if I offend,” he began, “but one, how have you not had.a sandwich before? and two, who’s your parent? Godly one, I mean. I have a feeling that I might have the same one.”

Luke’d been in the hospital waiting for one of his perps to get medical treatment. The idiot tried to run from him while he was breaking into a business and slammed right into the concrete when he tripped looking back at Luke. The youngest son of Hephaestus was already dreading the paperwork to come, as he stood up from the bedside chair and went for a stroll. One of the patrol officers was standing duty, as Luke made it to the snack area before his eyes grew wide at the man who’d just inhaled the candy bar. Luke shook his head, a chuckle escaping his lips. “Rough night for you too, hu?” he offered as he made his way over to the coffee machine. 

Jude was enjoying his moment of peace, and thought that he had hidden himself quite well away from any patients or family of the patients that may have found him, The eyes from the other male in the room had shocked him a little, and he let out a chuckle at his words. “It’s not been great.” He replied, not moving from his position perched on the edge of the desk. “This is the first time I’ve sat down in about seven hours. You?”

Viv had been running a bit late that morning, considering Felix had decided to get into his treats in the cupboard overnight and proceeded to get an upset stomach all over her living room She had already showered by the time she’d come down but after all the clean up she’d had to do- another was definitely needed. Sighing as she made her way to the nurses station, she picked up the schedule of rounds and began thumbing through it when someone called for her attention. “Oh shoot, Hi, oh my god I am so sorry,” she gushed with an embarrassed flush, “You must be Jude. I’m sorry,” she spoke again, feeling slightly guilty as she began placing the chart down, “This morning was a rough one, and I almost forgot I was supposed to train you today,” she offered as a bit of an excuse before putting on a warm smile and extending her hand. “I’m Dr. Holt, but you can just call me Vivienne. Welcome to Icaria,”

“Oh thank god.” Jude let out a happy sigh as he leaned forward on to the nurses desk in front of him, feigning this exhaustion. “Is this hospital set out to mimic the minotaur’s labyrinth or what? I’ve never known one like it.” He grinned, before then standing up tall once more, taking her hand shaking it. “It’s nice to meet you Vivienne, and don’t worry about it. This just means I don’t have to go for a run tonight, already got my 10k steps in.”

THEA laughed softly as she watched the male shove the chocolate into his mouth and swallow it quickly , shaking her head in amusement . “ nothing , just gives me pregnancy flashbacks . ” she admitted with a laugh . “ those little dark chocolate squares with raspberry filling were one of my biggest cravings . ”

Jude replied with a smile, having finished off the bar in another two bites, and disposed of the wrapper into the closest bin. “I mean, as cravings go, that’s a pretty good one. Strangest I’ve heard, was asparagus dipped in peanut butter, and then deep fried.” He felt a shudder run through him. “Wrong, just wrong.”

“I don’t know man, I think I’d have hard time trusting a doctor if they told me all they ate was broccoli and carrots. Sounds too much like a rabbit,” Mike commented. Did rabbits eat broccoli? He wasn’t sure. “You new around here, doc? I don’t think I’ve seen ya before. Name’s Mike,” he introduced, offering a hand for the man to shake now that he’d finished his chocolate bar. 

Jane smiled and nodded. “I’m supposed to get checked out to make sure I’m healthy, even though I told Nelly I don’t get sick. She said it’s better to be safe than sorry.” It was confusing but the people she spent time with usually knew what they were talking about, even if Jane didn’t understand it. 

“You don’t get sick?” Jude asked as he patted the seat opposite him for the patient, Jane her name was, to sit down on. “That’s a good motto to live life by though, this Nelly is a smart one.” 

“Seriously?! You are officially the coolest doctor ever,” Yona told him, probably a little too intensely for a public space with a doctor she did not know at all. “I’d do that, but then I’d forget it’s in my bag, and then all I’d have to eat is chocolate hand cream.” Vending machine would only have been better so she could get more of the good-looking chocolate at any convenient time. “What kind of doctor are you? Not like… robot doctor or alien doctor. Like which specialty?” It was incredibly important to clarify this sort of detail.

“Now, I know you’re used to another doctor here but you get to see me today, is that all right?” Jude smiled as the woman walked into the room where he had been sitting, waiting for his next patient. All he knew about this girl was that he needed to be careful with her - whatever that meant. “You’re here just for a check up?”

“Alright, Jude–” She turned and narrowed her eyes at him as quickly scarfed down the chocolate bar. “Hurry up and finish that. We’ve got multiple stab wounds coming in, and we don’t want you looking like a toddler who got into the candy jar,” she said, handing him a wipe. “Honestly, it’s like I’m the older sibling.”

“Multiple stab wounds, really?” Jude frowned slightly once he had finished what was left of his chocolate bar, and threw the wrapped in to the closest bin. “I thought this was supposed to be a nice little town; I expected more sunburns and sunstroke, you know?” He groaned, before picking up the wipe and using it on his face and hands. “It’s not my fault though that this caramel is melting everywhere - it’s too hot.”

Odessa was trying her best to turn everyone’s attention off the negative aspects of her mother and even though she didn’t get paid for her efforts if felt very much like a full time job. She was on her way to another meeting when she heard a voice she did not expect to call out across the street. Dessa stopped and turned. She crossed her arms over her chest and glared. “I will not yell across the street at you.” She said in her normal voice. Odessa pointed to the spot on the sidewalk next to her and then placed her hands on her hips waiting for him to cross the street to her. What was he doing here? She did not need this. He was supposed to be back where people were watching him making sure he didn’t do anything stupid and no instead he was here. She was going to give him an earful. 

“I’m like the last person to judge,” Yona protested, holding up a hand to emphasize just how little she cared about a doctor’s life choices. Her diet was kind of a mess at this point even though she still lived with her parents and they had some interference with her dietary choices. “Was just thinking how nice it would be to get some chocolate right about now. Did you get that from the vending machine, Doctor Guy?”

“Huh?” Mike asked, surprised at being addressed. He’d been zoning out a bit, not really paying attention beyond the fact that the chocolate bar looked really good. “Good for you, man. You gotta do what makes you happy - if that’s wolfing down half a chocolate bar in two seconds, more power to ya.”

“What?” Jude caught the eye of someone looking at him as he shovelled half of the chocolate bar in his mouth in one go. He waited to speak further until he had swallowed his mouthful, a smile rising on his lips. “I’m not one of those doctors who preach healthy foods all the time.”

With gloved fingers tapping gently on the counter, Jude kept flicking his eyes between the watch on his wrist, and the barista behind the counter. “I’m going to be late.” He mumbled under his breath, realising that he probably should have gotten there earlier, but he had underestimated how long the queue in the cafe would be. “Is it always like this in the mornings?” He turned to the person beside him, who had been waiting just as long,

It hadn’t been long until Jude had seen that familiar red-head bouncing around the town. He sat back on the bench, having only been there for a day so far, a smirk toying on his lips. He knew that Odessa would be unhappy to see him there, having followed her from Baltimore, and the thought made him laugh internally. As she neared him, thankfully having not noticed him as of yet, he called out across the road. “You know, this seems like a quaint little Greek town, I expected something more...magical.”

Jude had a clipboard in his hand, and a list of patients and rooms on them that he was supposed to see that day - but he had absolutely no idea where he was going. He’d been given instructions to meet with another doctor, and join her on rounds today, a Dr Vivian Holt, but he’d not been able to find her as of yet. After a good half an hour of walking around, he mad his way over to a woman wearing a white coat, exasperation evident on his face. “Please tell me you’re Dr Holt, or I’m going to quit moments after starting work here.”
