I still can’t believe I made it. Some say you just go to UBC to get the name, and honestly that’s how it felt while I was there; pushing to finish for the name not the academics. But in the end, it means so much more than just a name. It’s the realization that persistence and resilience is still a valuable asset, and is generously rewarded. It’s knowing that faith is worth the doubt that precedes it. And the doubt that we have about ourselves is merely some extra room for us to grow. It’s like entering a new global family of individuals who, like me, pushed to achieve academic and personal excellence. I know others will debate otherwise.
