AI Generated Imagery and photography edited by me - March 2023
I’ve been using AI generated photo assets in part across different aspects of my work for the past 16 months or so, but it wasn’t until this past week that I’d occurred to me to try and use AI generated text content. For the past few days I’ve been ribbing friends getting ChatGPT to write rhyming songs based off of stupid quirks or stories about them - tonight before going to bed I thought I might quickly try using the same program to generate something slightly more meaningful, although I think most of the ‘meaning’ here is suitably artificial.
The photo I created using photo leap with the prompt “improvised man crying in the streets of 1920s Las Vegas” and scrolled past a half dozen or so results before seeing this image I thought would work for the design I had in mind. The text was generated with the prompt “write me abstract poetry about screaming into the void in 1930s Las Vegas”. Yes I know there is a discrepancy of 10 years but I’m half cut after a night of drinking so wasn’t paying enough attention to notice at the time.
The first poem created by CPG was very, very on the nose, I asked it to redraft the poem 3 times making it increasingly more abstract each time before I noticed the drafts weren’t really changing at all. And I clipped my favourite verse for the artwork you see above. The resulting artwork is largely generic undoubtably. But with some more effort on my part and some more effort inputting more creative prompts I think you could very easily create works that are seemingly more profound than a lot of other content I have seen.
