Lazy Man's Pocket
This is simple, but after having my Pocket articles read to me using the VoiceDream app for iOS, I had to create a similar system for Mac OS X.
I found myself repeating these actions repeatedly and I finally decided to get smart about things and use Keyboard Maestro.
I've set up this KM Action to only occur when I hold the Command key and click inside an article in the Pocket app for Mac.
Here are my "pro" tips:
Set the desired volume first so that your article isn't shouted, or conversely whispered, at you by your Mac.
Be sure text-to-speech is enabled
The single click at the end is to deselect the text.
Dictation & Speech
The one pre-requisite for this to work is that you have enabled the text-to-speech option inside of Preferences > Dictation & Speech.
You can establish any keyboard shortcut you want or stick with the default. Mine is set to 'Option + Esc'
