That feeling tho when you find that fic writer that just absolutely fucking
understands the characters to their core
writes so well theyβjust soβthey justβtheir writing isβ-THEY WRITE GOOD
shatters your bad mood with a new update
writes a fic that you can read over again and still clutch at your heart like HOLY SHIT I FUCKING LOVEβI LOVE THIS FIC
writes a scene that has you all giddy in public and that one random stranger asks you likeΒ βooo you are smiling :) :) is that a boy :) you are talking to :)β and youβre likeΒ βno Iβm reading a Everybody Lives/Nobody Dies AU, please leaveβ
understands and portrays the characters better than the people who make MOVIES with those characters
amazing. just amazing. fic writers are awesome

Hey. Sorry for a long silence. A lot happened, nothing good.
You probably didn't know this, but I am from Russia.
I was from Russia. I had to run away into nowhere, without a plan or backup because of my antiwar position, because I can't imagine any future there. I am in Tblilisi, Georgia almost for a month now, trying to figure out what to do next, but to be honest I have no idea.
You probably do know that Russia now is a totalitarian state with a full-scale dictatorship and censorship.
Everyone who is against the war is facing repressions and a very real perspective of getting 5 to 15 years in russian prison (which is fairly worse than any hell you can imagine).
My parents, my brother and a lot of my friends are still in Russia. I am mad worried about them, because national police forces already started to come for relatives of my friends (just because of some antiwar reposts and texts in social media).
But I don't want to be silent.
What's now happening in Ukraine is a crime against humanity.
Everyone responsible should be punished as war criminals.
Everyone who is supporting this massacre should be brought to answer.
Glory to Ukraine. Freedom for Russia.
I hope I will be able to continue making art, because it's my main reason to wake up in the morning. Because I have nothing else left.
Commenting fanfiction is the easiest thing in the world once you start doing it.Β
I leave a comment on every single fic I read. Sometimes when I read published books I go and leave a comment somewhere the author can find it. Granted, I literally majored inΒ βleaving comments on ficsβ (English Education), but once you start doing it it just becomes second nature. Now youβre gonna go to the Ozymandias school of leaving comments:Β
Problem: I canβt leave kudos again.
Beginner: This is a second/third/fourth Kudos
Advanced: This is my second/third/fortieth time reading this, I still love it so much. Here are a few new things I noticed. I like the way you personally do x, y, z compared to other authors Iβve read (in this ship/genre/fandom).
Problem: I donβt know what to say :(
Beginner: Just list what you did to read this fic.Β βI stayed up late reading thisβ,Β βI read this on a crowded trainβ,Β βthis kept me company while sickβ.Β
Advanced: X,Y,Z parts made me get butterflies, and I had a physical reaction to this part of the story, I squealed outloud when characters did x,y,z. I blushed at this part. I laughed out loud here. Whatever.Β
Problem: Iβm embarrassed to leave a comment (what if I annoy the author?)
Beginner: Short answer: you wonβt EVER annoy the author (unless youβre needlessly mean) But to start, be generic, you donβt have to spill your soul in the comments section.Β βI liked thisβΒ βI enjoyed reading thisβΒ βnice ficβ.
Advanced: This really meant a lot to me that you wrote this. This is something I feel like Iβve always wanted to read. This fic hit me in all the right places. Etc.Β
Problem: I donβt know how to express myself/my experienceΒ
Beginner: My beginners go to is to highlight a line, put that in your comment and sayΒ βi liked thisβ or to identify basic emotions you had while reading and comment thoseΒ βthis made me happyβΒ βthis part made me sadβΒ βi almost criedβΒ βyou made me laughβΒ Advanced: βHighlighted lineβ This line made me smile because it has to do with character development/itβs really romantic/itβs so unique/itβs moving. Sometimes I donβt highlight a line at all, I just talk about the stuff Iβve noticed were unique to the fic.Β βI love the way you did this particular thing with this characterβ.Β
This? This is an amazing post. This is the Captain Awkward of commenting postsβit addresses all your fears directly and gives you actionable scripts for each one.
This is helping alot!

1. Ah Fai was a chief animator for McDullβsΒ animated features. Heβs super cool. Ultimate senpai.Β
2. Previous post on breakdowns right hereΒ
Some thoughts on acceleration and force
I presented this in the order of how I slowly understood the trick of delivering force -Β first an abstract concept of impact taught by Ah Fai, then a more complicated discovery on the acceleration pattern, last back to a more abstract concept of breakdowns.Β
Like Iβve previously stressed, 2D animation is everything but one single approach. Thereβs no one rule that rules them all, but interchangeable ideas with math, or physics, or music, etc. Thereβs no βperfectβ animation either, but what is perceived as organic and dynamic. E.g., using the Fibonacci numbers to animate didnβt bring me a perfect animation! On the other hand, a tiny change in the pattern could already make the feeling of force so much more powerful.Β
Not so much of a tutorial than a personal experience. I hope you find this interesting hahahaΒ

A wonderful addition to the list!
Unsplash. Another whopping huge free images site like pixabay: free for commercial and noncommercial use and remixing; just donβt sell the photos unmodified or add them to other photo-sharing sites.
Morguefile. Big old free photo archive from the dawn of the web. βWe are a community-based free photo site, and all photos found in the Morguefile archive are free for you to download and re-use in your work, be it commercial or not. The photos have been contributed by a wide range of creatives from around the world, ranging from amateur photo hobbyists to professionals.β
Open Access at the Met. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York: βWhether youβre an artist or a designer, an educator or a student, a professional or a hobbyist, you now have more than 406,000 images of artworks from The Met collection to use, share, and remixβwithout restriction.β

Limited use, if youβre doing a Science and need control panels/rockets/futuristic an image search with qualifier site: nasa.gov You have to double-check a photoβs caption itβs really a NASA photo, but photos which were taken by NASA spacecraft and astronauts are public domain, since theyβre funded by taxpayer dollars. (This also goes for images of animals archived at the USFWS Digital Library, i.e the US Fish and Wildlife Service, or rocks and landscapes on USGS websites.
Okay updating and consolidating lots of info here; as well as adding links for ease of access. Adding a brief description for some too; as is the case that not all of them have descriptions above. (Warning that some of these links contain nude refs, I will try to mark where possible which ones have more prominent ones.)
Posing Sites and Apps:
Adorkastock. Stock photos for pose refs. DeviantArt gallery started in 2007.
FreePhotoMuscle.com. (translated page link click here) Japanese stock photo pose site that includes buff people, but in funny poses and costumes.
CroquoisCafe. (NSFW, nude model poses warning) A stock photo pose site. You should be aware this org has been linked as pro-Trump. I leave it to yβall to decide if you want to use the resources or not. I highly encourage not financially supporting them and trying to support the individual models if you can.
Line of Action. Fantastic site that includes posing refs, community discussions from other artists, figure study, anatomy, etc. So much stuff in here.
PoseSpace. Extensive library of poses. Some free resources others are paid. Iβve not fully evaluated both, but you should be able to use this all mostly free and get great use out of it.
SketchDaily. This one is one of the better ones out there. You can time yourself, search by pose, clothing options, body type, perspective, etc. All real models.
JustSketch.me. A pose app for any device. Has apps for most devices and a webapp. Customize and pose models/props/scenes.
Quickposes. Pose site that gives you timed challenges to become more proficient at poses.
POSEMANIACS. Ref site with anatomical poses. All the ref pics are of 3D models with only the bones and muscles. Can be helpful for seeing how muscles behave in certain poses. limited to two body types tho.
MagicPoser. A wonderful app thatβs great on mobile. Lets you choose size of models, number of them, style, etc. Significant features are use of snap point with the physics engine, adjustable lighting, multiple perspective, 360 angle, articulated hand posing.
Clip Studio Paint Modeler. Free 3d tool that works with Clip Studio Paint. You can import your own data or other models you find online. Not quite an alternative to Blender, but the integration with CSP is very nice.
Egg a Zyoutatsu Atarichan Drawer. (requires enabling flash player or downloading and using standalone flashplayer) Drawing tool for pose practice. The developer is working on an html5 version.
DesignDoll. One of the best pose tool apps out there. You can customize so many things. They also have an extensive collection of ready made poses here. You can use the free or pay once for life and have the poses integrated into the client as well as the ability to export your obj to other programs like blender or smt.
Stock Photo Sites:
Unsplash. Giant free stock image site.
freeimages.com. Another stock photo site, less features than some others.
StockSnap.io. Stock photos with a creative commons CC0 license, which essentially means you can use the photos however you want and donβt have to attribute to them. (though its nice if you do attribute)
Burst.Shopify. Tons of royalty free high quality images. Similar licensing to StockSnap.
pixabay. I feel like most people know about this one, but it features entirely free CC0 licensed Photos, Videos, and Music. No attribution required, but still nice to support a giant site with all this content.
Viintage. Big collection of public domain vintage photos.
Gratisography. For commercial or personal use. They specialize in odd, quirky, wild stock photos.
pexels. Great free stock photos and videos. Only a few stipulations of what they donβt allow, but their license info can be found here.
Faestock. An artist and model with a huge amount of fantasy and fae and other types of photos available. Their terms for use are here.
MorgueFile. Old stock photo archive thatβs been around a long time.
Museum and Institution Open Access sites:
USA National Gallery of Art. Over 50k works available for download.
New York Metropolitan Museum open access. 490k works to browse. Even codes for Animal Crossing New Horizons patterns.

hey how does one lineart? i love ur style so much so i was wondering how you do it! have a good day!!
I know a lot of artists and tutorials tell you to do the lineart first, and then treat your piece like a colouring book and keep your colours in the lines -- but that's so restrictive! And there are so many ways it can go wrong! You accidentally draw/paint outside the lines, and boom, your day is ruined. Terrible!
...so that is literally the complete opposite of what I do lol! I never do lineart first, no matter what I'm doing.
That's my first and most important bit of advice: do lineart last.
And honestly that solves like-- 80% of lineart issues, bc suddenly you don't have to worry about getting it right with the sketch, and all lining is is drawing over your already-neat colours! It's way more accomodating of mistakes, and is a good way to stop lineart looking too stiff!
see look thereβs some wip pics to show you that that is what i do lol
Second bit of advice: Lineart Can Smell Fear.
So be confident! Try to use big, fluid strokes, keeping your pen/ brush on the page, rather than doing lineart little bit-by-bit.
First pic is with a pen, second is with a brush. As you can see it makes a SERIOUS difference with something pressure sensitive like a brush lol. And if you're drawing digitally, DON'T BE AFRAID TO USE THE STABILISER-thingie!!
My third bit of advice is just mess around with it!!
Try drawing with thin lines and thick lines, obvious lines and subtle lines, black lines and colourful lines-- try lots of different types of lineart! There's no One Way of doing it, and you've just got to find the way of lineart that's best for you! Ignore people that tell you thick lines are bad, or that lining with only red is weird! Do what you want! Art is all about trying new things, so make sure to experiment with how you want to do lineart!! :D
SO uh-- TLDR:
1. Do lineart last
2. use confident brushstrokes to line
3. experiment with lineart!! find your thing!
