Picked up this cheap, quadrille rulled book for a few dollars. I love the extra thickness in the cover, the black tape on the binding, and the green pattern. I've seen this design somewhere before, as a gray pattern. It's a nostalgic memory though and I can't quite put my finger on where I've seen it! Oh well! This will be my new daily planner - for a food diary, to-do list, and expenses record. Coffee dreams. Sketching this morning in my unjournal (see previous post). How old were you when you first started drinking coffee? I started quite late, I was 20 and had already been flatting for three years. My roommate ritualistically had a coffee every morning straight after she woke up, and before breakfast. I've been struggling with a creative block for a frightening length of time now. So I'm reading and listening to and watching as much as I can on the subject. I can feel in myself that the block is slowly releasing its grip. Something that is helping is a solution I developed to a part of the problem holding me back. That problem was the irrational fear of "ruining" a perfectly good journal, or blank journal page with mediocre or bad handwriting or sketching. (Various other excuses include, "All the paper in this journal is the same - there's no variety in here," or "It's too hard to write/draw on a small, raised surface." The solution I have developed to overcome this road block is a sort of 'unjournal'. I have torn a bunch of paper into the size of the journal page I currently prefer - but I won't bind it all together or into a cover until I am ready. That way, my perfectionist tendencies are assured that I can easily remove a page if I have to. The writing/drawing surface is also manageable - I can work on one sheet of paper at a time and bind it all together later. It's working! I filled three pages yesterday and three more today. And guess what - so far I'm keeping all of them. I was also able to shift to a journal page of lined paper, when I had the urge to free-write.
