Life update: I am so excited to announce I have joined The Athletic to cover the Green Bay Packers. To be able to announce this news ahead of my 25th birthday this weekend is an incredible blessing. This is nothing new. Growing up, we saw the slanted chinky eyes and heard the mocking of ‘funny’ Asian accents. And way too often, Asians are usually passive and brush off these ‘jokes.’ Hearing Christian Fauria’s recent racist mocking of Don Yee paired with bamboo flute music was hurtful and infuriating. WEEI in Boston should be ashamed. Don is a supporter of AAJA and an advocate for Asian Americans everywhere. I’m lucky to call him a close mentor and dear friend. Enough is enough. Being reduced to a stereotype is ignorant and always has been/always will be racist. We must defend our culture and the mission we stand for as Asian American journalists.
