Amusingly, this is kind of the opposite of the dynamics in canon (taking post-Gwen stories into account).

The complete opposite. I wonder why they did that? Gwen and Peter had an unhealthy relationship in the comics.

Hopefully because they learned from Lee and Conway’s mistakes and wanted to portray a Peter and Gwen relationship that actually was healthy this time around. :)

Yeah but that’s their relationship in canon. It’s honest, people are in unhealthy, dishonest relationships, all the time. It’s realistic. Is it good? No. But it does happen. That’s why it’s a pet peeve of mine when people romanticize their relationship. It wasn’t a good one. I wish the writers would be honest about that, instead of sugar coating it under puppies and rainbows. Gwen wasn’t good for Peter, and Peter wasn’t good for Gwen. That happens. It’s one of the reasons MJ and Peter’s relationship means a lot and was refreshing because, they were open and honest with one another. That’s my opinion anyway.
