This is all definitely going to take me a few days to write, but I am excited at the prospect of having everything I could need in a book and still having space. The last book I had even had lines in it which can be quite restricting. I typically write VERY small, so have an unlined book means I can really capitalize on space. A great recommendation on how to do so! Remember, though, this is only an opinion: always follow your intuition and include what feels right! There may be topics on this list that are not applicable to your practice and/or don't interest you, and that is okay. Each book of shadows/grimoire is unique item that should be personal to you and you alone.

Astrology

Cafe Astrology - does your birth chart and it’s presented in a really cute way imo. It also gives you info about each placement and you can check compatibility and stuff too

Co—Star - I downloaded is the other day, it gives you quick daily horoscopes, do’s and dont’s for the day, and a longer breakdown of the horoscope

Dream work

Little Book of Dreams - I got this at a local store but you can get it for £4. It’s really cute and small, with just little summaries for what common dreams mean. It’s very simple but good for beginners in dream work

Deity worship (These are specific to Hellenism. You don’t have to worship Greek deities to be a witch but it’s what I have resources on because it’s what I follow)

Wikipedia - no seriously. It has info on so many different deities and their mythology so it’s actually quite useful.

r/Hellenism - a good place to ask questions if you’re new to deity worship and get some SPG on less common deities. Be sure to fact check

Amino - there’s a couple of Greek mythology and Hellenist communities on here. Like with Reddit, fact check!

Theoi.com - so much basic info on various deities, and it’s got epithets and things too that Wikipedia doesn’t have.

Tarot

Nata Soul Taro - probably the best pick a pile tarot readers I’ve found on YouTube. she also has a website and does personal readings. The videos are very calming and often really accurate

Zodianz - gives you three tarot cards and their meanings. Includes whether they’re yes or no, zodiac signs, planets and elements that correspond with each card, keywords for the card and then a short paragraph about the meaning. It also gives the meaning of the numbers in the card (like in 8 cups it tells you about 8)

Spell work

The Works - if you’re British, The Works has a lot of trinket boxes that you can keep spell ingredients in, and some potion bottles which are meant for crafts but they’re perfect for spell jars

Witchipedia - has some basic info about spells and some simple ones that you can do without needing many tools. Perfect for broom closeted witches, beginners or witches who can’t afford fancy stuff.

@strangesigils has some posts on common sigil methods, or, you can use some of their existing sigils!

Shadow work

Pinterest - I’m not kidding Pinterest has some great shadow work prompts if you just type in shadow work. Some are meh and some are really good

Co—Star - as well as astrology this also has a section where you can write a message to yourself and it’ll pop up the next time the stars are in the same position as they were when you wrote it

Sunday - The Sun - Solar power, success, personal empowerment, material wealth, health, beginning anew. 

Monday - The Moon - Lunar power, purity, spiritual cleansing, astral work, divination, psychic ability.

Tuesday - Mars - Physical power, passion, sexuality, drive, ambition, achievement, masculine power, activate protective talismans, reverse hexes and psychic attacks.

*Some Wiccan traditions believe that the Elder is sacred to the goddess, and shouldn’t be cut or used. However, the berries and leaves are used in spells.

When you’re feeling over burdened by something, create time to ask these questions:

🔮 How long has this thing burdened you?

🔮 Where do you feel it in your body most? Identifying the physical ways it manifests in your body allows you to create softness around it with intention.

🔮 Does the weight of it make you struggle with it head on, or avoid it? And in doing so, do you feel in control or powerless?

🔮 Since its inception in your life, what have you gravitated towards? This could be anything; most likely you do it without realizing it. (I.e. cooking, baking, painting, tarot, etc.)

🔮 Make a list of the objects, memories, activities, or rituals you’ve gravitated towards recently since dealing with this burden. These are where you find your power. These are where you receive your strength.

🔮 Make this a list that you prioritize while you battle the thing that burdens you most. The things you gravitate to are not random; they serve a purpose and should be recognized.

I gravitate towards creation. It is not exclusive to painting. Creating a clean home out of a dirty one, for example, is a ritual for me. Creating nourishing broth from chicken is a ritual. Creating a quiet space to meditate is a ritual.

What is a witchling box?

A witchling box is a traditional gift bestowed upon a witchling when they come of age (traditionally either 13 or 16) by either coven or family member. This box is often filled with things to help aid them with their craft as they start to walk the journey of witchcraft by themselves. There can be many different things in a witchling box as every witchling and witch is different.

What things can you put in a witchling box?

Basic supplies. I’m talking crystals, herbs, candles, incense. Do they have a particular one they’re drawn to? Or a favourite? Yeet it in there.

Basic tools. You might want to get them their first athame or chalice or even wand? Here is your chance.

Letters and memos. Write to them, give them letters for specific times in their craft or little notes of encouragement and support.

Textbooks. If possible get them textbooks you think they will enjoy get them a beginners tarot book or witchcraft 101, something they will enjoy reading and learn from.

Photos or important things. You can put in family heirlooms or special photos. Maybe enchanted jewelry or something that they’re interested in. For an example, they like art? Get them some pencils or markers (they can use it in their craft.) They like cooking? Get them some recipes or a cookbook.

Spell jars, or magical items. Again, enchanted things, spell jars, give them something to work with. It can be as simple as a sweet sleep jar or a talisman. Give them some magic.

Form of basic divination. Trust me, it’ll be worth it. Get them their first tarot deck or set of runes. (Bonus points if you can give them a personal cheat sheet or something that shows your perspective on things.)

A grimoire to start them off. Write them a grimoire, write the basics of things, special spells or recipes you wish to share with them, give them knowledge you think they will need. (Note I’l make another post for this one specifically)

Extra Information 

It’s also a good idea when you’re putting everything together to bless and cleanse the box, maybe even charge it with specific energies.

You can also decorate them, I’d suggest buying or making a plain box and then adding things to create a more personal special effect.

I remember that my mom trusted me to know that you can cleanse you home with roasted coffee.....
