My January homage to garnet continues with tsavorite; the bright green variety of grossularite. Vibrant green, brilliant and not treated, it is rare to find it in sizes bigger than 2 carats, the smaller crystals are reasonably plentiful and reasonably priced. I just listed a bunch of new black spinel rose cut free forms, otherwise known as polki cut. Black spinel is really an excellent choice for an opaque black stone as it polishes to a mirror shine and unlike, say, black onyx it’s not dyed (did you know onyx is dyed black chalcedony? A lot of people don’t!).
