This outfit has provoked many deep questions within me like: “why can’t I wear a dress over a simple t-shirt and jeans?”, and “Is wearing a dress over jeans and a t-shirt ugly or revolutionary?”. It is revolutionary. Tasteless mere mortals who think this outfit is ugly *eye roll* should stop for a second and think about the fact that this ensemble might not be unsightly, it is simply the idea that SOCIETY has entrenched into our minds that pairing jeans and a dress is prohibited in the fashion world. We need to destigmatize the idea that wearing a dress over a t-shirt and jeans is a fashion faux pas, because it is simply not. Fashion historian, educator, and archivist Sara Idacavage states, “I was attracted to this style because it allowed me to be dressy but not too dressy”. This quote reveals the genius of this clothing combination. It quite literally is the perfect combination for attending an event where you are unsure of the dress code, so you just combine formal as well as casual clothing elements. I feel a fashion revolution happening...I feel it in my fashion genius bones. We need to officially, as a society, stop being blind to the fact that this picture of Ms. Tisdale is a work of art, and we need to acknowledge that what she is wearing is fashion genius.
