And honestly, I can’t say I blame her for leaving given how badly both her and Faye’s characters have been mistreated in the past year. But mate… I am 100% NOT OK with the WAY she is (possibly) leaving. If this ***** s/l is true, I can’t tell you how fucking disheartened, frustrated and annoyed I am at the insensitive way this is potentially being handled. Being a muslim lesbian myself, you won’t believe how immensely proud and overwhelmed I felt seeing someone like me on screen reflecting my background, sexuality and the genuine struggles that come along with it. Sometimes it was hard to watch due to how close to home it hit but the fact that this was on a long running british soap watched by millions doesn’t go unnoticed either, considering the demographic who generally watches it. It’s done so much for me personally and I’m sure for thousands of other people who have felt seen, accepted or acknowledged in some way and for that I am thankful.

But I’m honestly tired of saying ‘I should have known better’ to get myself invested in another lgbt ship where one of them **** and lets me down. We’ve all been through that shit too many times to count (lexa and root, I love you) and the emotional trauma it bears that can leave a lasting impact. THEY really should know better. Like, I wasn’t expecting Corrie to be a standout champion for the lgbt community either, but I was pleasantly surprised with how they portrayed Rana’s sexuality in the earlier stages and actually had hope that they wouldn’t go there? Tho Corrie has been progressive with Kana and especially with Rana with her struggles the past couple of years, unfortunately they’re still in 2016 where the byg trope is well and truly (ironically) alive. I just hope they learn from previous and upcoming backlash to prevent younger people having to go through this feeling of dread, grief and anger in future by not shitting on their viewers like this.
