INTERACTIONS

the translations of their minigame names are as you'd expect: バタット (batatto), ジョングラー (jonguraa), and プルーイ (puruui).

bonus: air waves is エアウェーブ (eaweebu), and main performance is オドリテ (odorite) which i think is derived from 踊り手 (same pronunciation), meaning "dancing hands".

another thing i looked at was "Jongler's Book on Jongleing And Other Tricks" (why is that "and" capitalized??), which is translated as ジャンゴリングなどの技を解説したジャンゴリング入門書.

it's pretty wordy, but my interpretation of that is "a jongling guide to tricks such as jongling". interesting to note that the translation of the jongler minigame's name does not appear

it's pretty well-known in fandom that pippinses use kansai dialect. out of costume, battat uses ワテ ("wate" in katakana), which seems to be standard for pippinses.

i think i saw someone point out that battat uses a slightly politer variation of the kansai dialect than regular pippinses, but i don't know enough about the dialect to confirm for myself.

in costume, he uses ボク ("boku", in katakana) and speaks in standard japanese. he's just as shouty as in english (if not shoutier) and uses a lot of tildes in his dialogue.

he seems to use a lot of english-isms as mike, but i can't really comment on how common these actually would be in japanese. one bit that comes to mind is “ミスター・テナ！　マイ　フレ～ンド！“ which is just "Mister Tenna! My friend!" but katakanized.

i'd also like to point out that, even in costume, battat doesn't put on the "mike voice" for the fun gang in chapter 5. there's not much distinction in english, but in japanese, he maintains his pippins accent. this isn't true for the minigame room in chapter 4, though.

as far as i can tell, zappers speak in informal, masculine japanese. all zappers, including jongler, use オレ ("ore", in katakana). they speak the same way both in and out of costume.

jongler says “よう” ("Yo") instead of their usual "Nice to meet ya." in japanese. this is also contrasted with sweet and cap'n, who just say "YO!" in latin letters in the japanese translation.

they use an exclamation mark for this bit in the mike fight, but not in chapter 5. they also use it for their dialogue ("Hey, boss.") in the minigame room.

there's unfortunately not too much i wanna talk about here for them, but i will note that they seem to be a little more expressive in japanese than they are in english

pluey doesn't talk, but as we all know, he does use kaomoji instead of smilies :)

i do wish i could write more for him, but there's obviously no japanese-specific characterization of him...

ok i am once again SICK and FIGHTING FOR MY LIFE so i'll cut it here!! i might do more of this (analyzing specific dialogue lines) but my japanese is rusty!!
