jungwon: hyung 911 i need a date outfit
jungwon: are you in the room right now?
@jonbonjayvi
JAY: i'm in the room JAY: you disappear for an entire day and this is how i find out you have a date JAY: get back here before you dress yourself JAY: and tell me how much time i have
sunoo had been over heeseung's place, but had left. was it to get air, or was it because he didn't want to overstay his welcome. maybe getting back to where they where was going to fast and he didn't want to ruin it either - but also being in the middle of fighting all the time made it easier for sunoo to just stay over there.
walking back to the dorms, he took heeseung's advice and had texted jay... maybe voicing things would help. as soon as soon as knife (jay's version) started to play he knew who was calling, he picked up and made his way to the closest bench he could find to sit down. It was nice to hear that he didn't just need to spit out what was wrong, that he could just... talk.
"Hey..." Sunno's voice quiet, biting on his lip letting out a sigh, kinda mumbling "Can you just promise me this won't lead to fighting...or rehashing things.."
Silence stretched, answering for a moment. Not totally but just the low hum of the air conditioner continued against the walls. A pen remained caught between two fingers, suspended above an open page where the last line had stopped halfway through. Nothing finished. Nothing too important to finish now.
JAY: I promise. I'm not going to fight with you.
Voice low, certain. Pen finally touched the desk, carefully aligned against the edge of paper despite no attention being left for either.
JAY: And I'm not calling to drag up everything that already happened. I just want to understand what's happening right now with you... I'm listening.
sunoo: yeah.. you can call.
Call came through before the typing bubble had fully disappeared. A door clicked shut, attention completely toward a brother in need. Voice low and steady.
JAY: Hey. I'm here. You don't have to figure out how to say it first. Just talk to me.
sunoo: no if your busy its fine... its not important sunoo: back spaced; i mean it is important but not so important that you need to drop everything for me
JAY: no. i know you JAY: where are you? JAY: can i call?

A sink too full. Two towels. A dish rack leaning slightly to one side beneath the weight of bowls neatly arranged by size, though nobody asked for order. Nobody needed to. Water flowing warm over every porcelain. Its pour steady enough to fill the silence without breaking it. Soap suds gathered at the base of narrow wrists, slipping in pale lines toward the elbow before disappearing underneath a pushed sleeve. One plate passed. Then another. Each accepted without looking. Dried. Stacked. Returned to exactly where it belonged. It all arrived too easily, a rhythm instilled and just familiar in every beat. Wash. Pass. Dry. A choreography built somewhere quieter than memory, old enough to survive resentment (anger and shame), recognized enough to make distance feel briefly artificial.
Almost domestic.
Well, almost.
Knife's blade remained near the cutting board, handle angled away. Leftover scallions scattered beside it in uneven pieces, some too thick, some barely cut at all. Steel moved beneath small dainty fingers, grip rising higher than it should, thumb pressing where the blade narrowed toward the handle. A breach of safety protocol. Irritation surfaced before thought could stop it. Old. Instinctive. Not anger. Something that's worse... Softer. One that's tucked beneath shared history now being dragged quietly back into the present, concern still wore the same face it always had.
❝ Haven’t I told you not to hold the knife like that? ❞
