Hometown Roots

This song means a lot to me because whenever I go through a breakup, I seem to move everywhere but on. I go out for a drive to see new places to try and clear my mind, but it never works. I blame every breakup I’ve been through for why I know every back road in the Macon area as well as the Savannah and Statesboro area. I think the reason that I go out and drive is because I can play my music as loud as I want and sing as loud as I can without any judgement from anyone else. One night, I went out driving just to see where the road would take me. I ended up finding a small town that isn’t even on Apple Maps. I saw an old timey-looking church and a large plantation house among other things. I guess there’s just one place that I haven’t gone. I’ve moved everywhere but on.

The other water tower with EDIMGIAFAD which stands for Every Day In Middle Georgia Is Armed Forces Appreciation Day

This is another song that describes how it is to live in a small town where the tallest thing is a water tower. The chorus is my favorite part because it’s very catchy but everyone from a small town can relate to it. Friday night football really is king. Every stadium in the county is packed and you can hear the game from miles away. Sweet tea really does go with everything. It’s my favorite thing to drink with pizza, which doesn’t sound like it does but it is so amazing. Everybody really does know everybody and word spreads fast, so you gotta always be careful what you do.

I heard this song for the first time at Logan’s Roadhouse. This song describes the south very well and includes a lot of cultural things that aren’t common in the other parts of the country. A few things he mentions that have a southern charm to them are Mason jars, sweet tea, honey biscuits, and the Dukes of Hazard, which actually takes places in Georgia.

This is a barn off the side of the road outside of Fort Valley. There is a really old truck inside that people take pictures with around prom.

Where I live is pretty rural, especially compared to Atlanta. This song basically describes what it’s like to be in the country. This is great to play with the windows down when you’re driving down a dirt road. It just puts you in the mood of being proud of where you’re from and enjoying the outdoors. 

Adam Hambrick

I remember listening to this song all throughout last summer, before college started. I would play this song as my friends and I would get in my truck and drive around. I really like the line “Living large in a small town” because that’s what we did. I really miss last summer and it has some of the best memories that I’ve ever made. I went to St. George’s Island, Texas and Louisiana to see family, and a cabin out in the woods in Tennessee just to name a few. During every event, this song was played. Whenever I miss those times, I play this song and it takes me back and I feel like I’m actually there.

Even though Scotty McCreery is from North Carolina, this song still reminds me of home. He is singing about how he is very far away from home and the only way to be there right now to close his eyes and go home in his mind. He then  reminisces about all the things that he misses. Sweet tea, porch swings, pine trees, and supper on the stove are a few of these things. Whenever I’m missing my home, I just put on this song and close my eyes. Some things that come to my mind when I think about home are pecan trees, fried chicken and macaroni that my mother makes on Sunday after church, going for drives down back roads with my brother, and rocking chairs on the front porch during the fall with college football on.

Travis Denning

So I actually live in a town outside of Macon. About 10 miles south of Macon, it is home to an Air Force base, the Museum of Aviation, and Travis Denning. This song is about him using a fake ID with a real person on it to buy alcohol for everyone at the parties he went to. Even though I can’t relate to this song, it still makes me wonder if all those people with fake IDs ever get to meet the real person on their fake ID. In the music video for “David Ashley Parker From Powder Springs,” the cashier at the liquor store is the real David Ashley Parker from Powder springs, which is really cool that Denning got to meet the guy he pretended to be.

This song is special to me because Jason Aldean and I are both from the Macon Area. In the music video, there are several shots of places in Macon, including the Ocmulgee River, downtown shops, Macon City Hall, and the Confederate monument on Cotton Avenue and Second Street. Every time I hear this song, I am proud to be from an area that produced such a great artist.
