A year and a half later and it’s still true. This horror story from my life is the second-most read thing I’ve ever written.

LEGO JLE: for just a few weeks longer...

I had a breakfast meeting with K, a dear friend who is getting ready to transition out of a toxic workplace. We went down the line of our best and worst workplace scenarios, and a few hours later, she sent me this. The fair treatment v. equal treatment consideration really struck a chord.

“You only know a man by seeing the parts he doesn’t show you.” The weird-cool Hanna-Barbera renaissance continues--first we got a straight-up action series of space heroes built around Space Ghost, then we got an edgy apocalyptic Scooby Doo and subversive Flintstones, and now--Snagglepuss is a southern gothic gay playwright with a complicated romantic past with Huckleberry Hound, and plenty of secrets in a world in which humans and humanoid animals live alongside one another. There’s plenty of fascinating queer coding to be had here, and Graphic Policy breaks it all down with writer Mark Russell.  I love that the voices of my childhood have “grown up” to fill this adult comics space; as I said to Elana Levin last night, this feels like the best of the Sandman one-off stories from The World’s End, an odd little parallel reality that tells a heartbreaking and flavorful story in a world just to the left of ours. Russell, for a straight, non-southern guy, does a great job of finding an authentic voice here. Check it out. 

Okay...I used to write for Cinema Blend. The “fun twist” highlighted in the article is that The Rock’s character is a left below-knee amputee, like myself. Missing a leg is now a “fun twist” to a summer action movie. Meanwhile, I’m trying to figure out what kind of “fun twist” I could yield by taking my leg off and chucking it in the general direction of Cinema Blend. So there’s that.

I like Tumblr, I’ve just never been very good at it. But I’m willing to give it another go as my writing shifts, as my career changes, as everything moves in directions sticky and weird. So, here we go.
