OK SO I haven't been super active on tumblr lately because I couldn't get into my account on destop until yesterday and my day job has been kicking my ass BUT I HAVE EXCITING NEWS. FOR YOU.

My YA Faerietale fantasy novel Runaways got nominated for two categories in the Indieverse Awards ("The Vibes are Right" and "Irreplaceable Sidekick". That would be Hannah's weasel animal companion - KitKat). Voting is going to take place in October, but right now, the event has organized a sale with a TON of the nominated titles. Including Runaways!

Between Today (June 14th) and Wednesday (June 17th), my paperback will be discounted to $12, my hardcover will be discounted to $15, and my ebooks will be discounted to $0.99 (everywhere but kindle). And you can shop all the other participating titles on the Indieverse site.

Synopsis: When Cecelia disappears into a storm on the night before Halloween, her older sister Hannah must venture into faerieland to bring her home.

Armed with their father’s green coat, a steel pocket knife, and a red friendship bracelet, she stomps into the woods in search of clues. Soon she finds herself on an extraordinary and dangerous adventure, navigating between the Seelie and Unseelie courts. But secrets await in the woods, and Hannah only knows stories, not the truth about the threat that stalks their family.

Will she be able to rescue her sister and return home before it’s too late?

Runaways also has EIGHT gorgeous full page black and white illustrations done by my friend @siarven @siarvenart ! These aren't in some exclusive special edition, they're in every book, including these discounted ones. We wanted to bring the world of faerieland to life and Quinn did an incredible job.

forgive me for doing a self promotion on tumblr, I know we all hate ads but 1) you get cheap books, 2) this is the first time my book has been on sale since it released so if you haven't bought it yet now is a really good time to do that, and 3) This is my debut novel and I got nominated for awards so this is kind of a big deal to me. 13. What is something your OC does (to others) that they would not like if others did to them? Are they aware that they do this?

Hannah is quick to judge. She sizes up a person or situation and decides very quickly whether or not she likes them, then acts accordingly. But when people do the same to her (like the faerie guards arresting her at the portal for being a troublemaker) she wants to be given the benefit of the doubt. I think she becomes somewhat better about this after the adventure, and takes longer to gather information about a person before judging them, but she never quite loses her harsh streak.

Cecelia makes impulsive choices and then doesn't like dealing with the consequences of her actions. Tbh I don't think this is anything that changes after the events of the book because she knows her sisters love her unconditionally. The stakes become lower now that her big secret is out but uh Hannah definitely gets plenty of questionable "hey can you bail me out 🥺🥺🥺" texts at 3 in the morning once they become teenagers.

Tess knows she has a bad temper but also hates being yelled at or reprimanded so that's a cycle their family has to work through as she learns how to navigate the human world.

How quick is your OC to shift blame? Do they own up to their mistakes, or are they prone to start pointing fingers at others?

Hannah and Cecelia both blamed each other a lot for the Piper-getting-stuck-in-seelie- miscommunication-debacle at the time but since then they've both matured and talked it out and taken the blame for their respective parts of that fight. Like any sisters, they still play blame games from time to time but they're better about it now.

Tess takes blame even when she probably shouldn't. She's conditioned to not stand up for herself in the Piper's court and so she owns up to anything even if it wasn't really a problem. At the same time she hates being in trouble so the whole process is agonizing and bad in many ways :'( she's the kind of kid who will spill a glass of water and apologize 30 times as she cleans it up.

What is the most recurring theme in your OC's nightmares?

Hannah: the Piper controlling her body and forcing her to hurt her sisters.

Cecelia: the feeling of being watched, like how the Piper watched through her eyes before she ran away
