One of the things I love about the Pokémon Special manga is that the player characters in the game are such open canvas with nothing to work with, so technically speaking you can make them be whatever you want, but the difference in how the manga adapts the male and female player characters is so funny because they make almost all of the male characters such normal everyday guys from a totally normal small town with typical goals like "I want to become the best Pokémon trainer in the world :D !"
Meanwhile the average female player character receive the wildest backstories, because what do you mean Green/Leaf got kidnapped by a cult as a young child then became a Catwoman-esque con artist after she escaped, that Sapphire/May is a vines-and-leaves-wearing feral child who lived a Tarzan-like life in the jungle, Platinum/Dawn is some type of a princess with a weird coming-of-age ceremony, White/Hilda is the president of an entertainment company at 14 year old, Whitley/Rosa is a former member of Team Plasma and I have yet to read the SM arc but apparently Moon/Selene is an "archer-pharmacist" in it?
