gale thinking he’s an option when in mockingjay katniss was like “well if i can’t have peeta i might as well die”

people tend to ask why katniss will always blame gale as the mastermind of the bomb that killed prim, but she doesn’t blame beetee who had just as much involvement in designing the weapon. the answer is intent. no, gale did not mean to kill prim when he thought of the bomb, but he was thinking about what would cause the most damage to the other side to satiate his need for vengeance. he is a highly emotional being and channels that anger into violence. beetee on the other hand is very practical. he weighs the pros and cons and tries to find the best way to win the war. the biggest difference between beetee and gale is that when beetee is given the opportunity to exact revenge by voting for another hunger games with the capitol children, he says no. he sees it as senseless violence and it sets a bad precedent. you cannot tell me that gale would’ve said no. he takes every opportunity to cause his enemy the most harm possible. we see it when they bomb the nut and he wants to close off access to the trains as well, and it is beetee that reminds him the population is fragile as is. so no, katniss doesn’t resent beetee because beetee understands there are lines not to cross.

it’s so funny that gale thought he was ever in the running because katniss constantly has to remind herself that she cares about him. especially in district 13 when gale is right there, katniss is constantly consumed with thoughts about peeta.

i love how suzanne collins takes special care to remind the audience that katniss and peeta are still CHILDREN. katniss throws in how she is only 16/17. how she doesn’t have very nice thoughts for a 16/17 year old girl. and it is just always so evidently clear that katniss is a teenager. idk it’s just really important to me that people remember that katniss and peeta are children

one of the moments where i hate gale the most is at the cabin by the lake. and it’s not when he confesses to katniss he loves her, even though it was absolutely inappropriate, but it’s when he gets mad at the idea of haymitch and peeta joining them in running from the district. he can’t fathom that katniss cares about someone other than him. he thinks katniss is his, so why would she dare want these other people to go with them. despite the fact that haymitch and peeta are the only people in the district who truly understand the horrors katniss went through, because they were in the same exact situation. but no gale is the only one allowed to be trauma bonded to katniss. and it’s in this moment where i truly think gale does not see katniss as autonomous. he sees her as an extension of himself and she should do exactly what he wants and thinks is best. and then on the flip side when katniss brings up running away to peeta, he asks her if gale is going with them because peeta understands gale is someone katniss cares deeply about. and he doesn’t blame katniss for that. he knows that katniss won’t go without gale, and peeta is okay with that. as long as peeta knows katniss is safe, he is content. not necessarily happy, because it does break his heart, but content. because peeta recognizes katniss as her own person who can make her own decisions
