I was broken when I met you. My days began hungover and ended drunk. I’d wake up and vomit out the taste of pure vodka and strangers’ kisses out of my mouth. I’d wake up to find scratch marks on the wall from when the guy from last night had fucked me so hard it hurt. My bedroom floor would be a maze of burnt out cigarette butts. I was broken, beyond repair, and I would have continued to waste away my life that way had I not met you. You made me realise that I was still beautiful, that I was still worth something. You treated me in a manner I had never been subjected to before - with love, with care. Our relationship was carefully built on trust. You slowly guided me away from all my bad habits, and opened my eyes to a whole new world I had never known existed previously. My painful memories from the past were replaced with happier ones with you. I, who never knew how to trust, who never knew how to depend on someone, started believing in you. I started believing that you were the key to my happiness, an emotion I had never felt before but which seemed possible with you. Then you left. Now I’m back to where I started - broken.
