Don't become blinded by all the fun new things about to come. Yes we (well I deleted the game but still) finally get a standard 5-star selector, yes the weapon pity counter is reduced, yes we get 20 pulls, yes the new trailer looks interesting, yes Capitano is cool yada yada; but we still need to make it clear that we do not succumb to the blatant discrimination even after the character trailer dropped. We need to make it clear that's it's not a "trend" or whatever and we're actually serious.

And I repeat, do NOT spend money! Do not spend a single penny! There are so many other much more useful things you can buy with it, so become f2p, if you care!

I don't care how good the Natlan plot will be or even the Snezhnaya plot later in 2025 (my most hyped region so far), I will never forget the treatment POC people face. I will never forget how the abundance of fair-skinned characters actually influences the way people think, making them racists who say shit like "well white people exist everywhere" and "it's fiction". ACCURATE! REPRESENTATION! MATTERS!

Representation matters, and I think as somebody who's enjoyed this game for so long I have a responsibility to do what I can to voice my own discontent and make room for the voices of the people being actively scrubbed from the game. And even though I wouldn't consider this account any sort of platform, I've been pondering how it ties into this responsibility.

Recently, a Twitter (not calling it X fuck you Mr Musk) account which had previously been dedicated to posting content about the character Kinich made the decision to step down from being a Genshin "gimmick account", and (in my opinion rightfully) criticized other social media accounts in the Genshin community for continuing to provide plenty of positive engagement and focus on their gimmick while claiming to support the boycott. I think they displayed a lot of empathy and maturity through the way their message was handled, and it's a good point.

Boycotting Natlan by engaging positively with everything *except* the stuff we want changed is hardly a boycott. It won't affect a company that has already demonstrated its disinterest is amending the issue. Even in the unlikely event that they hear the criticisms drowned out by the praise, the response will likely be to simply avoid even trying to put people of color in their game at all. We must demonstrate not that these cultures are unprofitable, but rather that failing to properly respect the cultures in question will make the entire project less profitable. In the modern day, social media buzz is essentially free advertisement.

After seeing the Special Program, hearing them harp on how much they listen to player feedback without touching any of the playable character designs, I felt deeply frustrated. Seeing so many praise the game online for free rewards and changes to the pity system, completely glossing over the actually important issues the team completely ignored... it kind of sealed the deal for me. I am confident in saying that I don't want to provide free advertisement to this game right now, no matter how minimal my reach is.

It's kind of a bummer, and I'm not saying this is necessarily a permanent thing, but I'm going to try to put all of my Genshin posting on hold for the time being, which means I'm not gonna be finishing up that series for now.

EXACTLY LIKE REAL LIFE MYTHOLOGY. most cultures' mythologies are passed down orally until one wise person decides to actually write it down! and those become our only sources of insight into those myths and ancient stories. norse mythology, for example, has only like two viable texts and those were written after roman christians took control over the area. like the sources are scattered and one tale has many interpretations and endings. you have to become an actual scholar to decipher all of it.

and the fact, the mere fact, that genshin has been able to mirror this in a game is absolutely insane to me.

like, oh, you wanna learn about nabu malikata, the goddess of flowers? here are your sources: an artifact set, a weapon description, a npc dialogue, a world quest, the description of a flower (padisarahs). and all of these are scattered throughout the world of tevyat.

you have to work, like a damn archeologist, to figure what the fuck is tevyat truly and understand its history.

like god, i have never played a more lore-rich game. from old mondstadt, to the hexenzirkel, to dragonspine and durin, to the yakshas and adepti, to baal and beelzebul, to watatsumi and enkanomiya, to the chasm's civilisation, to khaenriah, to elynas, to remuria and remus, to apep and nibelung, to deshret and nabu malikata, to the combined civilisation before the second descender.

it is SO fleshed out. and i haven't even mentioned like 40% of wtf is going on in tevyat.
