Joe was born to a teenage mother in New York City, and as soon as he was born, she started to spiral. When she shouldâve been focusing on him, she was out partying, leaving Joe with her brother - Christopher - and things only got worse as time went on. At two years old, Chris offered that he would take over full parental rights of Joe so she could continue living as she pleased, while keeping him safe. She was more than happy to do so, and cut almost all ties with Joe and Chris immediately.
At the time, Chris was dating and living with his boyfriend James, who was more than happy to take the young boy in. By the time Joe was old enough to realize anything was unusual about his situation or family, he didnât care. Heâs never wanted to contact his mother, and never bothered trying. It didnât matter to him that they lived in the same city, she clearly didnât want him.
Joe currently attends Julliard as a cellist, but spends a lot of time wondering if it was the correct choice.
James was born and raised in Tupelo, so when Joe turned 12, he suggested to Chris that they move back there and let Joe grow up with a nice house, a big backyard, and all the mud a kid could want to roll in. Chris was hesitant at first, but agreed.
It was sometime in middle school when Joe started playing various instruments. His favorites were the drums and the cello. He played both all throughout high school, joining the drumline and marching band and practicing cello privately. Then, when it came time to go to college, Joe had to decide if he wanted to join the Texas A&M marching band, or try for something crazier, like Julliard. Joe told himself heâd attend an audition for Julliard and then decide from there.
HC:
- James and Chris got married in 2015 when gay marriage was legalized and Joe was in it
- Heâs shy, which can come off as standoffish because heâs quiet and doesnât go out of his way to talk to people
- Most of his time is spent practicing, or at the library, or at the bookstore. Heâs always got something on him to read
