Though it wasn’t exactly professional of Kai to compliment someone for injuring themselves, after watching the spill Joanie had taken on the pitch, they couldn’t help but do so. After all, it was an incredible catch and if the other hadn’t fallen, the cheers would’ve erupted in the stadium.  “This is not me saying I approve, what you did up there was dangerous and from what I’ve read completely against policy, but…” as they continued to work, patching the woman up, Kai couldn’t help but lean forward to whisper under their breath, praying no one else would overhear. “You did a good job.”

Joanie had certainly done some stupid shit over the years, that wasn’t to be denied, but this was probably the stupidest shit yet, though also not at all out of character behavior for her on the pitch. She managed a grin as Kai spoke, though it perhaps came out as more of a grimace in the end through the pain, clearly quite proud of herself despite everything.

“Hey, win’s a win.” She chuckled, not really seeming all too concerned about the height of the fall she had just taken for the sake of that win, the pure luck of her not being more seriously injured mixing with her just a tad overactive competitive spirit to make her not really think about just how bad of a decision she had made, “That’s what really matters, so...”

“Uh, yes?” James scoffed, fully aware that he had quite literally no chance of getting what he wanted. “It’s home soil advantage, or home air… Whatever! You don’t have to support your country just because you play for one of their teams you know!”

“That is probably the least of the reasons, you’re right there.” Joanie chuckled, in the end simply finding his argument quite silly, “I believe it’s called being loyal, actually.”

“Whoops, sorry.” Joanie laughed, “You really expect me to support an English team over a Scottish team?”

“I mean, 'cause it’s amazing?” Joanie looked over at the other at the question, “Also, you give people one sport and it’ll get really big.”

“Peaceful?” Pandora answered perhaps a touch too quickly. With a self aware chuckle at her own eagerness, “I only mean in times like these. It might be a nice break, living in an ant farm, away from everything.”

“Personally I’d like, you know, like, a friend or something there too, the world’s sucked shit lately, yeah, but, you know, all alone digging tunnels in some sand...” Joanie trailed off, shrugging, “I suppose that thought’s probably not unaffected by growing up where you can just head out and be alone in nature easily, you know?”

The brunet had gotten so used to having to defend themselves for any minor thing that might’ve angered Greyback that they’d started doing it with others as well. “Sorry,” Kai spat out, ducking their head in further embarrassment. “It’s just most people learn to um, you know, fly when they’re eleven at least…and here I am reaching for a stupid book at thirty-four hoping I’ll be able to at least get a little feel for it.”

“You don’t gotta apologize, really, everyone’s got something different going on and all that shit, you know?” She looked over Kai as she spoke, “I can’t do full lessons or anything, and honestly I’m a bit of a shit teacher in general, but if you want any help with flying it’s sort of, like, my whole thing.”

“You wouldn’t have squished me, though, right?” Pandora pouted before laughter took her. “You would have given me my own little ant farm? Sounds a lot better than laying eggs every other day.”

“...Not purposefully,” Joanie said after a moment of thought before laughing herself, “I can’t make any promises that I wouldn’t accidentally, but.” She fell silent again to think as the other woman spoke, “What would it be like as an ant in a solo ant farm, I wonder...”

“what’s new and cool that you can do with magic?” the man questioned. “i’m pretty sure that everything that can be done has already been invented.” 

“You just gotta be creative” Joanie rolled her eyes, “We may have all the spells we’re gonna have but that doesn’t mean you can’t do something new with one of those spells.”

With a soft tilt of her head, Pandora looked in confusion to Joanie, only now realising how her quiet arrival in the dark may have appeared sneaky. “Oops!” she spoke lightly, her lips pulling in at the accident. “Well, thank you for not hexing me, I’m glad I didn’t become a hen or something.”

“You’re lucky, I was just about to turn you into an ant.” Joanie chuckled, relaxing further as the apparent danger grew more distant, “I’m not actually sure I could take a chicken, those fuckers are actually pretty dangerous if you get on their bad side.”

“Of course it is, yeah.” Joanie responded quickly, perhaps too quickly if she actually thought about it, but she rarely ever really did, “It’s fine.”

Perhaps not for most, and even so, Kai imagined that most people didn’t think much of them pulling down an instructive book on flying, but it made them feel vulnerable, almost as though they were sharing a dirty secret with the world. “I didn’t say I was embarrassed,” they spat, quickly becoming defensive. “It just, it feels as though I always have judging eyes behind me, so it was a bit of an impulsive reaction on my part.” The brunette chuckled softly, lowering the book. 

“Ya’ didn’t really have to actually say it.” Joanie chuckled again, growing more series after a moment and less teasing about it, “Hey, it’s fine, really, I mean, I can only speak for myself but I wouldn’t really say I’m all too judging, so you’re fine.”
