This environmental graphic for Bloomberg LP corporate headquarters designed by Paula Scher really stood out to me while reading Chapter 24 in Meggs’. I love to go shoppings and this design really stood out to me because I think it would be so cool if stores had the dressing rooms marked like this. It is very eye catching which is important when someone is trying to find a dressing room.

The bottom image is a cinema poster for Die Horse, 1927, by Jan Tschichold in the Bauhaus period. The top image is a poster I came across by Andrew Ackroyd for an urban typography exhibition. Both of these posters exhibit the use of the diagonal axis. Not all posters have to be horizontally and vertically aligned. Both posters are very attractive and nicely laid out.

The bottom image is Gerrit Rietveld, model for Schroeder House, Utrecht, 1924. A new architecture is composed of planes in a square. This reminded me of modern architecture today, shown in the top image of a modern home I found in a magazine. New homes are being designed using this same method. Just another example of how history repeats itself.

The Great Gatsby poster pictured above reminds me of this Scottish Musical Review poster, 1896 from Chapter 12. Something about the font and and the lines create similarities between these two posters. Posters today still relate back to twentieth-century designs.

The bottom poster from Chapter 13 reminded me of a typographic approach. The top poster is a poster I found at the mall the other day that reminded me of the New Futurist Theater Company poster from 1924.

The bottom picture is a poster for a theater and cabaret production of Fledermaus in 1907. The top is a current Playbill from a broadway theater show.  I found it interesting to see the differences in the two posters. Back then the theater posters were more abstract then they are today. 

The trademark for General Electric was made around 1890 and is such a popular trademark then and now. The negative space in this logo reminded me of the Volkswagen logo/trademark. They are both unique and legible which is why the design has lasted so long.  

I have this canvas in my room and it reminded me of the different type faces we have been learning about. Specifically, the image above it from the textbook. That image shows the different types of new curves and style that they could add to letters because of wood type printing. With wood type, it was easier to carve curves and styling into each letter. These types were likely seen on posters to make certain things stand out on them and grab people’s attention in a cluttered environment.
