This week we used the database of Simple Analytics, which provided data on various stats based on demographics, salary, education, location and much more.
We had to research Florida Grand Opera competitors and how do they differ? and who’s doing what? What makes them stand out from one another.
Using Simple Analytics I was able to see all the competition information in the area of my research. It helped plenty. Instead of having to search one company at a time, I was able to see various competitors all in one area.
Opera a decreasing music genre yet a beautiful sophisticated art form. The Florida Grand Opera wants to bring it back and revamp it. Make Opera a trendy and up-to-date music genre. Behind all this restructuring it will take branding and strategy to bring it to the upcoming millennials.
Questions to activate the brain; Food for thinking!
How can we bring Opera back? How to make it as big as it once was? or is it still known today as it did 20 years ago?

When discussing social media we don’t think about what it is? how we define it? or even how it came to be. Most of us were born into the Digital Age, we just accepted and learned what we had in front of us.
Social Media and Social Networks are they? and How do we categorize it? How does the internet play part of the bigger picture?Â
The internet which is the main community that gives us access to these other media and platforms to connect with others. The internet was originally designed for scientists (specifically computer science dept. scientists) to communicate across the US (Hiltzik,1999).Â
Earlier in the millennium online communities became most popular. Online communities were built with the coming of the internet and brought people together to discuss and share data to enhance their research and to share those successes and failures.Â
Then, these online communities started developing into larger groups that discussed more than data, but now they were recommending and giving opinions. Along the lines of text, the strangers in front of the computer screen became a colleague and a friend. The online communities became social networks that developed into social media.Â
The reason the social networks became larger and stronger because of its ability to share, gather and diffuse data among groups. Having all these individuals sharing data attracted more people with the same interests. We are beings of communication in need to connect to a larger network. It makes us feel connected to a higher power even if its just a system of computer networks.Â
What do you think about the internet? Do you still have the same views of social media and social networks? What changed?Â
This week was so much fun! Well, not literally, but in the sense that I learned and I find that awesome!Â
We spoke about Brand Equity and Brand Awareness. And how brands maintain their equity with campaigns and CSR. We analyzed Brand Equity through Brand Resonances Models that focus on brand building. Below we have the Brand Dynamic Pyramid and BrandAsset Valuator.Â
Brand Asset Valuator
At the end of Brand Building, the goal is to be able to measure how brands are able to connect with the consumer and maintain that relationship. In the models above, they have different ways on how to measure Brand Equity that eventually develops into monetary value since consumers are purchasing the experience each brand sells.Â
There is an aspect of beauty and humbleness when people help one another without any benefit and/or interest in return just for the enjoyment of being able to contribute to a larger aspect of someone else’s life.Â
Week 3: Mid Brand Watch Irma arrived!Â
During Brand Watch, Hurricane Irma arrived! Inconvenience for work and school, yet a few days off weren’t that bad for my personal time. No Light and cold water, but it was a great disconnect from the online world for a few days.Â
Back on track, I continue researching cosmetics brands (Brand Watch first post) and comparing their content and follower engagement. Some brands have more followers, more engagement and others have fewer followers and still, have high engagement from their niche market. Â
The more in-depth I researched the more I started to find out about why certain brands post during certain hours and how they decide which photo to post and how to engage with their following. For example,  Kylie Cosmetics post content three to four times a day due to the follower demographic which tends to be younger women to girls that have more time to be on their phones and constantly engage during the day. As oppose Bobbi Brown Cosmetics which caters to an older woman demographic and these women are not as active in social media throughout the day or just at specific times such as late night and/or after work hours in general.Â
This is just a bit of info. if not I’d go into crazy specific details and probably lose track of my weekly summary! Â
Once I finish Brand Watching, I’ll post more details of my end results.
In the upcoming weeks, I’ll be focusing on Brand Equality and Brand Equity to see how consumers differentiate brands.Â
Questions to keep in mind:
What makes a brand?
What’s brand equity?
How are brand using their equity?
Does brand equity develops brand culture?
or Does Brand culture is developing Brand Equity?
Thanks for staying tuned! Have a great week and don’t work too hard!
Hello to Week 2: Oh La La! Makeup Brands & Analytics
This week, we discussed the importance of social media, social capital and affordances in social media! This discussion was quite helpful and it was a bit eye-opening there are so many aspects to the social media world that we still need to get to know.
Now getting to Brand Watch! The assignment was to find for brands that are active on social media and post regularly. These brands would also use ads, hashtags and live stories to keep their followers up to date and their brands alive through the social media platform.
I decided to focus on Instagram. It's one of the most useful social media platforms and their use is not only personal, but it also converts followers into consumers.
While I was doing my preliminary research to decide which industry to choose, I looked in technology such Apple, Samsung, Sony etc. yet they weren't as active in Social Media, especially in Instagram.
Light Bulb moment: Why not focus on the beauty industry which is over $400 billion industry.
I chose the following brands to watch:Â
Mac Cosmetics
Kylie Cosmetics
Urban DecayÂ
Maybelline
Nars Cosmetics
Bobbi BrownÂ
At first, I decided to check the first day how many posts each brand posted and analyze how many likes and comment it generated. It’s all getting to know the brand and whats makes them who they are?

As the days passed, I started to see how the IG followers interacted with their favorite brand. I started to focus on the engagement of the brand with its public and how they reacted to the posted content.Â
One of the strategies each brand mostly used was to repost user-generated content and then tag them and this leads the viewer to the account of the person who posted or took the photo. This way Beauty Brands engage with their loyal followers. Not only is the brand being promoted for free in their follower’s page but the brand is giving recognition to their content creator.Â
Just to keep it short & Sweet, I’ll be back with more details and information for the brand watch! Just keep a close eye on my Tumblr and always remember any feedback or suggestion is gold!Â

In the upcoming months, I will be learning and conducting research on how to captivate audiences through social media and measure how the information of campaigns is delivered and how it reaches their targeted audiences.
Also focusing on aspects of brand strategy to target audiences and brand positioning. I will be using already published data and case studies to investigate alternative ways to engage the public and predict upcoming trends.Â
I will be sharing my trial and error, successes and even the failures. You’re welcome to comment and share my information as it’s to create a larger network of information. If you have any suggestions please let me know! Every bit of information you can add to the projects and research will be valuable.Â
