Sightseeing around Winnipeg, Manitoba (July 2026)

I didn’t take a lot of photos at Ai-Kon 2026 in Winnipeg, Manitoba 🇨🇦 Canada 🍁 but I had an absolute blast 💥 at the con and also sightseeing in and around downtown Winnipeg including the beautiful river front district called The Forks where the two main rivers meet.

I work for a library 📚 system where management is leery of putting up pride displays in our buildings. My workaround is for librarians to become their own pride displays, especially us Cis Hets who can use our privilege to stand with the marginalized. Follow the professional dress code but do stuff like this.

Anime Ottawa 2026 at the EY Centre was a BLAST! I love this little (mid size) con! It’s only slightly smaller than Kumoricon and probably bigger than 2023’s Anime Toronto in the downtown Metro Convention Centre.

So, the Dallas Stars (NHL team) have a player from Finland, Number 25, named Arttu Hyry (“Hoo Roo”) and this is the mental image my brain conjures up when I hear his name in English.

Anime Toronto 2023 was this con’s inaugural year, formerly known as International Fan Fest, and in 2025 relaunched again as Anime Revolution Toronto which I was unable to attend but I hope was a success and can continue in the years ahead. It’s smaller than Anime North but more accessible to foreign guests and attendees, located at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in the shadow of the CN Tower and only a few blocks from Union Station, the city’s central transit hub.

Animated this color page from the Penguin 🐧 Highway Omnibus Edition manga (v.1-3) and the AI even supplied a voice in English, which I hope wasn’t ripped off from an actual voice actor but who can say? At least the audio fits the scene. 🎬
