This was painted less than a year before he committed suicide, but while he was still in the asylum.

The sun is radiant and warm, the trees are lush, and the landscape is beautiful. And yet it wasn't enough to save him.

He never sold a single painting in his lifetime. But this one piece brought me to tears over 130 years after he gave up. We cherish his art, but only after he felt totally abandoned by the world.

Something about how I can relate everything to greek mythos if I squint hard enough. But YEAH so funny story, after posting this protoframe, had like a couple people going (give him a ryan gosling).
