Midnight Competition { Yifan & Jinhai }
Yifan grinned when Jinhai retrieved the ball and started playing. Almost everyone says that after whoever scores the first point, and Yifan knows it’s only for a cover. He didn’t really know what Jinhai was capable of game-wise, but he welcomed the competitive streak nonetheless.
Unfortunately—for Jinhai—that competitive streak meant that he only sees his final goal before charging for it, not minding of the things that may pop up to block his way. True to Yifan’s predictions, Jinhai was easy on his feet, outmaneuvering him with several steps, but what Yifan lacks in agility he makes up in height as he easily blocks the ball from going into the hoop with a little grunt before taking possession of it and shooting it from the free throw line. “2-0,” he stated as the ball swished through the netting of the hoop.
Low curses could be heard if listened carefully, though the true meaning of the words was hard to identify as Jinhai made sure not to speak too loudly. He didn't grant the other the pleasure of knowing how annoyed the younger truly was. 'Don't get too excited about it, you still have three more to go-- and I'm just getting started.
Forcefully, he pushed the ball back into the counsellors hands, taking back his spot right in front of him. Frustration was starting to boil inside of him the longer he looked at his opponent, and eventually, his patience snapped. Cheating or fair play, as long as he won, it didn't matter. The lights in the room suddenly flickered, letting darkness surround them for a moment, before the light was back again. 'Seems like there's some trouble with the light-- let's hope it won't get worse.' Flexing the muscles in his neck, the demigod shot a challenging look at the other. 'Come on then, let's finish this.'
Having had his cast removed and two pudding cups to himself, Luhan decided to spend the remainder of his evening capturing the glow of the setting sun nestled on the academy's courtyard, camera ready at hand. Entranced by the lighting and juxtaposition of his surroundings, he's oblivious of the passing stranger, the figure happening to stumble in his shot. "Hello MTV. Welcome to my crib. I'm your host Barrie Pankratiy Tully Lu. And this here is my biggest fan, I'll let them introduce themselves"
Though his roommate had not appeared to be all that bad (strange, but not bad), Jinhai had never been the type of person that enjoyed being locked up in a small room for too long, especially not if said room had to be shared with another person. Hence the reason the demigod was mindlessly walking around by now, his thoughts wandering off to a faraway place as he let himself get lost in his own daydreaming completely. At least, until an unexpected voice called out for him and he snapped his gaze to the source of the sound, eyebrows raising as he stared down at the other person.
'Barrie what?' Second person to meet that day, and already Jinhai was getting seriously worried about the sanity of the other demigods. 'You might want to get out of the sun before it really damages your brain, you know. Also, MTV is kind of basic.' He frowned at that, finally turning to directly face the stranger, gaze dropping to the desserts he had taken with him. 'Will pretending to be your fan earn me one of those pudding cups?'

Zelo raised an eyebrow back at him shaking his head a little as he chuckled, giving up on convincing the other he knew he wasn’t a teacher. Zelo paused- what would happen if Zeus was grumpy? He imagined in the old days he’d either smite someone or get someone pregnant for revenge. “N-not sure b-but uh.. b-based on history.. its probably never good.” Zelo almost laughed because whilst there was a god at the school- he also happened to own a horse called Zeus. Everything he said could be equated to him as well- stubborn horse.
"U-uh- whilst in the u-uh.. maze w-we could make p-plea’s t-to the gods- some of t-them sent care p-packages.. s-she was only f-four.. and my sibling" Zelo explained- he’d asked them to leave her out- but she’d been put in anyway.
Zelo smiled, “i-I do magical a-arts and pegasi riding t-too.. a-and archery and healing..” He said excitedly- maybe they’d be in some of the same classes. Blinking at the other he thought for a moment- telling him it wasn’t until he’d managed to break free of his prison at the age of 14 that he’d learnt who his mother was- he always knew he was special- what he could do- but not why was probably a bit much. “U-uh.. I d-didn’t r-really find out till I w-was like older, ” He said quietly with a small smile.”D-did you always know?- also.. Nyx?”
'Sounds like fun,' Jinhai admitted in a mocking tone of voice, already picturing the school to be attacked by an enormous storm of thunder and lightning just because the God had lost a game of tug and war. He snickered softly at that, his own thoughts catching up with him, and for a moment he lost track of reality. It wasn't until he heard the voice of the other again that he snapped back into it, eyelids blinking rapidly as if trying to quietly repeat what had just been said. 'What?'
Sibling? 'Oh..' He merely answered, feeling rather sorry for the other guy as well. As cold as his exterior came across at times, Jinhai did have feelings-- and he could imagine how hard that must have been. 'Well.. at least you got her out safely again, that's something.' And it surprised even him, actually. A guy that was seemingly so shy and oblivious to the world, yet he had managed to rescue his sister. That deserved a tiny bit of credit.
'Never had any classes in this before, so I guess that will be interesting. I found out by accidentally attacking someone, though,' he snorted, though the memory wasn't all that much of a good one. 'But it's all good. Guess we're here to learn, anyway.' He snapped his fingers at the third guess, nodding shortly in confirmation. 'That would be me. What about you? It's probably some of the Gods that are obsessed with nature, isn't it? Would explain the complete mess this room was in a few minutes ago.'
Zelo looked over a the other shaking his head. “Y-you shouldn’t l-lie.. t-they said it makes Z-zeus grumpy” Zelo told the other quietly- frowning a little. He didn’t think the school would let a young person teach- but more than that the teachers didn’t sleep in the student dorms. They had their own wings- some even lived off campus. ” W-what classes a-are you taking?” Zelo asked curiously- trying to avoid the question- sighing he eventually answered. “W-well the b-battle teacher w-went a little c-crazy from w-what i heard a-and tried t-to kill her and h-her other r-room mate.. but uh- well I g-guess I b-begged rather w-well and they s-sent help. B-but she was okay.” Zelo shrugged a little- it was well known that the Battle Teacher had some uh- issues. But he was a great guy.
"H-how a-about Selene?" Zelo asked- remembering a few Selene kids being kind of- prickly. He liked this guy- even if he was prickly. "W-when d-did y-you find out?" Zelo asked- the kid full of questions and curiosity.
'Who said I was lying?' he retorted, casually raising one of his eyebrows as he uttered the question. And even if he was lying, who cared about Zeus' mood? What did he have to do with Zeus in the first place? Honestly, Jinhai looked up to all of the Gods, respected them and hoped to one day become as powerful as they were (or as least almost as powerful, even though he knew that wish to be insane), but his mood? It was just a silly joke, anyway, no need to get so worked up about it. 'What happens when Zeus gets grumpy?' The demigod wondered out loud, imagining a thunderstorm to strike the whole building when the God was having a bad day. 'Good thing the girl survived, though. Why were you begging again?'
A moment of silence fell when Zelo asked for his classes, causing Jinhai to think it over again. 'Uh,' he spoke shortly, leaning back against the wall and pulling his knees to his chest to become a bit more comfortable. What were his classes again? 'Archery.. battle.. magic arts.. pegasi riding and.. oh, and invincibility. What about you? Ah, no. No Selene either. Wait- What do you mean, when did you find out? Being a demigod?'
Zelo shook his head humming- “Y-you’re not a t-teacher hyung” Zelo said matter of factly, a bright smile still cross his features. Babbling in his broken stutters was Zelo’s speciality- especially when he was nervous. Tilting his head a little he looked at the other. “T-there w-was a f-four year old h-here once.. t-they made h-her go into t-the maze w-with the minotaurs.. i-it was kinda horrible.” Zelo mumbled- age mattered not here. His four year old kid sister had been put into the games just like everyone else. He shuddered remembering how she’d been put in peril. Luckily all the begging he’d done to the teachers had them sending her favours. Shaking his head a little- the far away almost damaged dead look fell from his features as he smiled at him.
"I-I g-guess.. H-hades!" Zelo said marking the first one off his list. "I-I like g-games a lot.." He admitted- whilst wondering if the other could guess his.
'Mind your words,' Jinhai strictly said, after being accused of not being a teacher. 'For all you know, Bansin might have added a new rule concerning the sleeping conditions and the age of the teachers at the school. Wouldn't want to start off on the wrong foot with a teacher, would you?' Ironically, he himself actually already had had a bad first encounter with one of the teachers-- not exactly how he had planned to start his stay at the academy, but he couldn't care that much, either. It was when the younger suddenly changed expressions completely that Jinhai got curious; what was going on here? Where did the sudden cheerfulness go? 'What happened to her after that?' he asked, wondering how the treatment for kids was at this school.
When Zelo finally made a guess, Jinhai couldn't help but chuckle almost inaudibly. Hades, huh? Well, that wasn't as bad, he figured. There were worse Gods he could have picked to match his personality- though there was probably something positive to be compared to for each of them. 'Try again, it's not Hades.'
"I haven't seen you before, that's why I asked." She stood, uncurling herself from her position in her hiding spot and dusting off the back of her shorts. "I'm Sukyung, daughter of Moros. You are?"
'I see.' For a moment, the male didn't speak anymore, eyes resting on the girl as he waited for her to continue speaking. Moros, huh? 'Isn't that the God of doom? I'm sure that must be nothing but pleasure.' A light chuckle escaped his lips at that, grin lingering on his face as he spoke. 'Jinhai, son of Nyx.' He casted a glance at the spot she had been sitting in, before turning back to face the girl. 'I can see why you're related to that God.'

Blushing a little- he ducked his head as the other called him rude. He hadn’t expressly mean to be rude- just point out he was kinda small or young for a teaching position. “T-teachers uh- they d-don’t stay in the dorms” He mumble trying to explain himself and failing miserably. Zelo giggled a little as the other threatened the window- his blush seeming to recede. “B-beetle juice d-doesn’t like heights” He chuckled. The frog had never ‘run away’ even when Zelo took him to the pond near the library. He always came back- sorta. “J-jinhai? T-thats a c-cool name” Zelo smiled a little more trying to make amends for his earlier actions. “W-who’s your uh.. g-god parent?” He asked curiously- the mood had him thinking hades- or perhaps another of the darker gods- he couldn’t pin a sunny god like Apollo or love- definitely not a sibling. Though he was kinda.. well cocky- maybe Zeus? Zelo scratch his head for a moment- from what he could read almost everyone was related to Zeus- He was fairly sure Zeus was his uncle.
'Well this teacher does,' was the simple, yet stern reply that passed the guy's lips, though confusion was soon to strike him again when the other continued to talk. Was this person even real? Seemingly oblivious to the fact that Jinhai was getting more annoyed as seconds passed, he did nothing but giggle and babble. At that point, the demigod had seriously started to question the real age of his roommate. 'Are you sure you're legal enough to even be here?' Perhaps not the right question to ask, seeing as demigods of all ages roamed around the place, but the words had already sounded before he could even fight them. Jinhai heaved a sigh as he sat down on the bed that was supposed to be his for the coming few years, his eyes never once leaving the overly cheerful person in front of him. 'Parent God? Make a guess, I bet you love playing games, huh?'
Zelo watched him put his things down on the other bed and immediately called bullshit- not that he was going to say that out loud. He just yawned a little again- feeling at ease as he clambered up- he wondered how short the other was. “Y-you’re k-kinda small” Zelo decided as he stood turning around to find his frog. “T-there y-you are” He mumbled scooping him up and plopping him in his terrarium. “H-his name is b-beetle j-juce and uh- I mean.. t-the plant thing.. I-I can’t control a-all to well b-but ill try” He said softly rubbing his eyes- all the plants from the others side of the room had faded- now there were just the ones about Zelo’s feet. “I-I’m Zelo” He said happily smiling- sticking out his hand for the other to shake.
Though not completely unfamiliar with hearing those words, it was not something Jinhai would ever get used to; especially not if the person who spoke the words looked like he hadn't even reached the age of 16. 'Excuse you?' he called out, following the other's movements with both annoyance and curiosity. 'And you are kind of rude. Keep that thing inside of the glass or I just might accidentally leave the window open when he is close.' A click of his tongue against the roof of his mouth, and he was shaking his head again. 'Name's Jinhai,' he eventually said, after having stared at the taller's hand for a good five seconds, shaking it only briefly. 'And just for the record, you're not even that much taller.'
"H-huh? b-beetlejuice! D-did you make a m-mess a-again." The teen still hadn’t opened his eyes properly as he tried to get out of bed. His long limbs tripping over themselves as he fell out onto the floor. The trauma of being awoken obviously hadn’t passed as he lay blinking up at the roof. "N-no I just f-finished c-cleaning" He mumbled and as he lay there waking up the plants seemed to start vanishing- diminishing. "A-are y-you a t-teacher? A-am I g-going t-to get kicked out?" Zelo suddenly asked breaking through his sleep haze with a sharp bit of worry.
'What?' Again, the same question. The guy left Jinhai to be completely confused, jaw dropping in the slightest as he sought for the right words to speak. He couldn't be serious, could he? Unsure what exactly to think of the situation, the demigod took his time to reply to the waterfall of question, debating whether or not to trick him into believing he was a teacher. 'What if I am?' the elder asked, placing his remaining bag on the bed and turning back to face his roommate. 'Would you promise me to keep this room clean and that frog--' Another frown; who even kept frogs in their room? '-- just keep it away from me.'

She looked up from her book, reading glasses slipping down her nose, when she heard the sound of someone passing her little hiding spot in the hallway. Curiosity had her peeking out to look at the person. "Who are you?"
In all honesty, Jinhai did not feel the need to answer the female's question at all. She had just blatantly called out for him to ask for his name; not even a greeting or a simple introduction. Now, Jinhai's own manners were far from being perfect, but this time he was absolutely clueless as to why she even cared. 'Why?' he asked, brows raising as he looked down at the girl. 'Does it matter?'
