hot take but i think if the fan theory that deltarune papyrus is more like tobys inital idea for the character ends up true. With the dark world assumedly taking place in asgores flower shop i feel like he may show up in the next chapter. (its either that or alphys)

ok so chapter five's dark world is definitely japan themed, but i'd like to argue its distinctly anime themed if that makes sense. Deltarune is in a western coded setting (probably america )

We haven't had any characters that are impled to have any history with the actual country and One of the main things japans known for in the west (and the game itself) is anime, the japan influence is obviously coming from someone with an outside perspective on the country, that perspective probably being anime. ( i think the ideas reinforced by the chapter mainly depicting literally the most iconic imagery used to represent japan)

THE TITLE CARD ANIMATION ON THE SITE. Its the first thing you look at when you open deltarune.com and the title for the chapter, so the thing representing it. when you look at it properly there's a distinct pattern. I cannot find an example for the life of me but anyone that's watched a decent bit of anime will know patterns like that are commonly used as backgrounds in the medium (especially scenes that try to have a dreamy feel to them) So The main piece of text on the site representing the chapter features a common motif in anime to indicate dreamy idyllic scenes. there's definitely a really strong escapism theme with the chapter considering tobys bluesky posts(?) about the upcoming chapter. and i think the titlecard/anime theme for the chapter pushes this even further.

I feel like toby's initial idea for papyrus had him fit into the neckbeard stereotype. My little boney = MLP, the neckbeard stereotype being commonly associated with the fandom, not to mention paps wearing a fedora. What else is the stereotype commonly associated with? anime. Deltarune paps is implied by sans to be a isolated shut it, asocial behaviour being another common association with the stereotype.

The chapters definitely focusing on someone else beside asgore , considering the fact it'd be completely nonsensical for his divorcee flower shop to create anime world incarnate. Although i think alphys or berdly are really strong contenders for the anime influence being pre-established weebs, i cant think of any reason as to why either of them would be involved in the creation of a dark world, papyrus disappearance on the other hand is insanely suspicious & out of character for his established behaviour undertale. (although the blue motif would make a lot of sense for berdly) His ambiguity in deltarune gives us a lot more room for reasons as to why he'd be involved with the chapters dark world.

I'd individually render the poses to get that early 3D shine ✨ Here's some of them at their original resolutions! I would work from text descriptions from Toby, and sometimes there'd be a Paint sketch to help out. Gigi drew the concept that I modeled from and some poses too!

I had a lot of fun pushing myself to match the dynamic poses Toby had in mind for Tenna - making him so crazy and expressive was something I couldn't have done without his prompts. He'd draw the faces on afterward too, which really brought Tenna to life!
