How 1.5 hours of my day went today: What we are looking at is a rental generator needed at the store I deliver due to downed power lines. The detail you may not notice is that they decided to place it in the already narrow alley I need to drive thru to back into their dock. It’s actually “do-able” until 8 inches of snow on top of compacted ice falls the night before. So NOW things are quite slippery and have reduced clearances by a few inches. Needless to say, I ALMOST fit. “Almost” meaning, yes, I attempted to fit thru but my trailer would slide ever so slightly towards the generator and I couldn’t pull thru without dragging the generator with me (If this was my last run and my retirement day I would’ve dragged that generator all the way to the dock 🖕🏽😈) So I manage to back out from the generator. NOW I’m in an alleyway with a store that has opened for business and their employee parking is filling up. Two choices: Attempt to blind side back out of a 90o turn and down 100 yards of alley now full of cars OR attempt a 3 point turn in a congested parking lot and go forward out the alley. Side note: delivery still has to made and that choice will be backing into the dock from the street with busy two way traffic AND snow accumulation Back to the alley… I decide to attempt the 3 point turn. Things got a little dicey and I did have to utilize a sidewalk and also help from my receiver to spot me. let’s just say it’s a good thing that the cars closest to the “action” conventionally fit their nose UNDER the side of my trailer 😎 Backing into the dock in traffic and snow was actually a non-issue but only because in some “do or die” high pressure incidents I actually become a badass 😏 Not bad for a bass player 😎 #truckerlife #BookOfJimmy https://www.instagram.com/p/CpY7qx9LlZZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
