Orbital Frame Jillhuty

(this post assumes the reader is more than familiar with the Fire Emblem series and its mechanics). This is the first in my barely structured writeups on games/media I enjoy. Part 1 is because I'm still playing it as I'm writing this post. Part 2 will be a final verdict (it's going to be a positive verdict I'm sure). I've been playing a Fire Emblem romhack called The Morrow's Golden Country. This is a romhack of The Sacred Stones that overhauls so much of the original game that you should go into it expecting a unique FE experience with GBA controls. Fire Emblem is a series that I personally find to be 6/10 overall, despite my long history having played most games in the series with love. Every game in the series has at least 1 or 2 major gripes with it that I think could easily be fixed to be amazing, but some design brings down my rating of those games. TMGC feels like someone felt all of my grievances towards every game in the series and addressed them all while also adding new gameplay features that I didn't even realize I wanted. Story and Support conversations: I don't want to delve into the overall plot too much since I highly recommend you just play it for yourself. However I will go into supports quite a bit. Each character can have up to 5 support chains at once, and rather than a sequence of (C>B>A), you go (C > C+ > B > B+ > A) with no need to grind for any conversations. Instead, conversations unlock at specific points in the story. This means each conversation can be written directly to the context of the current events in the story.

Gameplay: This game has the fabled "player phase focus" in that you are incentivized to use as many of your units' actions in a turn to optimize enemies eliminated, as most units will be able to handle about 2-3 enemy phase combats before being taken down. The difficulty is incredibly tight, but you have access to powerful movement skills, combat skills, and weapons to handle the incredibly threatening enemies throughout the game. The RPG mind goblin of "I shouls save this iteem" is gone, as I've constantly felt like I need to use every single tool at my disposal to succeed, and don't feel remotely bad for using up any powerful weapons or the like. Quality of Life: Oh my goodness, GROWTH RATES ARE DISPLAYED (by pressing select on the stat screen). You can infinitely access trade/convoy in a turn, which makes inventory management much easier and without need to do some awkward sequencing. I've been playing on Lunatic, but it's possible to change difficulties up and down during a file by reloading the save.

tl;dr this is an amazing Fire Emblem experience, and so far one of my favorite games ever made.
