The Hermits live in a lovely little town, completely untouched... minus the massive corrupt company trying to break them down bit by bit.

A lot of them don't seem to mind the company; it's shop just has more options than the local shop.

Doc, though, is a recluse at worst, and horribly independent at most. While he loves his peers and fellow townspeople, he often finds himself wandering the woods just to escape a few of them.

Of course, it takes him by surprise when he sees the local poet sitting by himself under the shade of a tree, scribbling mindlessly in a notepad that was smaller than the palm of Doc's hand.

He does feel a bit concerned, though; why was he out here, just.. sitting alone? Not that he has much room to comment on it, since he'd been wandering the forest for a couple hours now just to avoid the new squabble between the shopkeepers.

Of course, the poet seems to notice how long Doc's been watching him from the deeper part of the forest; Joe hadn't been that spacey, to not feel someone's eyes on him.

He beckons Doc over, and the supposed admirer hesitantly approaches. He sits next to Joe without a word, looking as if he'd been full named by a loved one.

Joe only laughs and flips a few pages over in the notepad. Without warning, he begins reading off some of his poems; his voice is soft, a hint of honey to the tone.

He reads.

And Doc listens. can you tell this is pretty stardew valley inspired

It's like magic being spoken over Doc's ears, words he feels more than hears. Joe painting a picture, a feeling, an entire world that Doc is privileged enough to be granted access to.

Joe: *softly tucks his hair behind his ear*

Doc was never one to snoop, he trusts Joe 100%. However, he has been observing how Joe has been almost constantly scribbling in journals for the past few days. Writing so much that he’s filled up 2 whole books already. While Joe was out, Doc grabbed one of them. Guilt ebbed at him as he grabbed it, but he shrugged the guilt away.

Upon opening the book to a random page, he found it filled with words. Words mashed together making no sense; but they all connected somehow. As if the words belonged to a theme.

He skims through the pages, each page filled with compliments, thoughts, words. He freezes when he hears someone landing behind him. “Hey d- What are you doing?” Joe asks, looking at Docs’ back. He walks over and sees him looking at one of his journals. “Oh…”

Joe frowns, sighing. He rubs his face with his hands. “Doc.. these were going to be a surprise for you!” Joe exclaims, and Docs’ face flushes in shame. “I didn’t realize. uh. sorry babe..” Joe just chuckles tiredly, taking the book from Docs’ hand. “It’s okay. I finished it anyway” Joe kisses Docs’ cheek. “I wanted to give it to you tonight after our date… but I guess i’ll just have to give it to you now!”

Docs’ heart flutters, as he looks at Joe in surprise. “That’s- That’s so sweet.. I-” Doc stammers, blushing. He giggles, playing with his hands.

Joe gets up, grabbing the other books. He sits down in front of Doc, handing him the books. “The top one is the first one, the one you were looking through. Read the front page if you haven’t already” Joe chuckled, enjoying seeing Doc in a flustered, embarrassed state.

Doc reads the front page aloud, tears welling up as he finishes reading it out. “To my favourite. My favourite person, My favourite Mob, My favourite pillow, and more. Everything in here is about you. Every word, every sentence, is about you. I love you endlessly, and these books have every thought, every word that comes to my mind when I lay my eyes on you, and more. Thank you for being my favourite Everything.”

Doc laughs, tears starting to roll down his face as he throws his arms around Joe, hugging him tightly before kissing him. Joe chuckles, kissing back softly. “I love this so much Joe! Th- Thank you” Doc says, voice cracking as he talks. He wipes his eyes, laughing happily as he looks through the pages filled with words like ‘Beautiful’, ‘Smart’, ‘complex in the best way’.

Doc: Gay for Joe? How am I gay for Joe?

Ren: All you do is talk about him, you follow him around even though you claim he does things only to irk you, and you haven’t broken minecraft in like... six hours, which I’m pretty sure is some kind of record.

Doc: How does that-

Joe: Howdy Doc!

Doc: OMG hi Joe! *sighs dreamily*

Ren: Sure, you’re not in love with him.
