My Battle to Treat My Sciatica
Like most men I tend to ignore any aches and pains until they become really really bad. Â For years I had played rugby, mountain biked, ran marathons and sat in front of a desk hunched over a keyboard all day.
Unless it put me out of action, I didnât bother seeing a physio or quack for anything. Â Itâs not by chance that Doctors are called quacks! Â Once they can cure the common cold I might have more respect for them.
Anyway, as my kids were born I seemed to get too busy to do the fun physical activities, I ended up working harder and harder and spending any non-work time with my kids and family.
It was around this time that I started to experience back and leg pain - just heading into my forties. Â It all came to a head for me when I was walking down my local high street holding my toddlerâs hand and he saw something, wrenched his hand out of mine and ran towards the road. Â Using my cat like Ninja reflexes I twisted and lunged after him. Â What happened next was so frightening I wake up these days dreaming about how lucky I was not to lose him.
It was as if a great axe had been thrown at me and hit me in the lower back taking out my legs and throwing me to the floor like I was a puppet who had had its strings cut. Â I felt the most excruciating pain and collapsed on the pavement unable to move. Â I managed to shout out my sonâs name through my back pain and he stopped just before he got to the busy road.
I didnât know it at the time, but what had poleaxed me was sciatic nerve pain. Â I was lying there on the pavement unable to move, in so much pain I couldnât think straight and what did people do for the first few seconds? Walk around or step over me!
I held eye contact with my son and willed him to walk towards me. Â I felt so helpless that the pain in my back had turned my world upside down. Â Eventually a nice lady worked out what was happening, held my sonâs hand and stood next to me while the sciatic nerve pain slowly subsided.
Being a dick I didnât see the doctor straight away until the nerve pain had happened a few more times.
Anyway, long story short I got fed up after a while of taking the strong pain killers my doctor gave me for my sciatica nerve pain relief and decided I wanted to find a cure for sciatica.
Eventually I did, but it wasnât easy. Â I wrote a sciatica blog about it which hasnât had many visitors. Infact I have passed on my treatment for sciatica to more people via word of mouth.
So in the interest of helping more people treat sciatica now I am starting to blog in other places on the tinterweb to point them in the direction of simple sciatica stretches that will give them back their lives.Â
