ok tbh can y'all like...chill. First off, Elia isn't some poor, weak woman who would just crumble at the sight of losing her husband. She's a strong snake woman who can handle herself and has a got damn strong mind. Furthermore, Rhaegar was a good dude. Class A in the respect department. He married Elia strictly because he had to, felt obligated. It's unfortunate how one-sided the relationship was yah but it's also just the way it was. She loved him, and he cared for her but didn't truly love her. Do you know how dishonest that must've felt? And that's just shitty. Anywho. It's not like Rhaegar was like "ooooo Elia" and then immediately jumped ship to Lyanna. It was more like "wow so this is what love feels like crap well I'm married to a really good woman whom my mother set me up with what do I do" and you know what he didn't do??? Cheat!!! He didn't cheat on her!! He didn't even divorce her; he annulled the marriage. He respected her enough for that. And there is beyond no way he would have just forgotten her and his children by her. Illegitimate, sure, but he wouldn't have disowned them and left them for dead. No way. Rhaegar? Good man. Elia? Good woman. Lyanna? Good woman. It's a complicated situation and yeah Elia got the shit end of it but for the love of all stop demonizing Lyanna and Rhaegar's relationship.
