Ah yes, the fan girl status, not a persona I ever take on, but I couldn't help it after I got to watch the musical hero of my middle school days perform his dubstep set at Identity Festival in Bristow VA.
-We meet again Identity Tour. It's been a while since I ventured my way to a large festival so I took the opportunity of my miraculous off day to check out ID Fest VA. Besides, my camera was itching to get used.
As I stumbled my way across the gravel lot of Jiffy Lube Live (wedges was a bad idea), I caught bits of random banter from the neon colored, beaded armed, music loving misfits as they named off the performers they were excited to see.
JDevil, Excision, Eric Prydz, Madeon, Eva Simons, Datsik, and Le Castle Vania.
Many more on the lineup of course but you can google those yourself.
I made it to the RockStar stage just in time to catch the last 30 min of JDevil's set and waiting in the back preparing for his 6pm time slot was Le Castle Vania.
With one last uproar from the crowd JDevil's set was over and with a swift, practiced motion Le Castle Vania was up to bat. His signature intro blared through the monitors and I could see the kids running towards the stage from afar.
I couldn't tell you how long his set was because I was just enjoying the music. That, and I was a bit busy changing lenses.
The crowds energy was so responsive. One of the best crowd claps I've seen in a while.
As a bystander from the stage it was pretty cool to feel the energy from so many of his fans. They went ham for every song!! (video coming soon)
I hung around the RockStar stage for the rest of the evening, catching Datsik and the first half of Excision. Made some new friends and enjoyed the evening talking shop.
The night cooled off and I made the climb up the steeply inclined hill to catch Eric Prydz.
Huge respect for the crew who put together his light show. Unbelievable. Watching it from the very back of the lawn, alone, and hidden by the night with my only light being the blasts of lazers from the amphitheater, well, there wasn't a better way to enjoy it.
With a last flash of light, bright enough to burn my corneas, the Festival was over.
The VIP after party began at 11pm with DC's local DJs Teknoir and JimmyJames.
Some of the artists came out and danced around with their fans.
A good end to my one off day in what feels like forever. Now, although I didn't get to see many of the acts, I'll get my chance at ID Mountain View CA. And deff going a little camera crazy then too.
