Another steddie popcorn fic with @jesushchristmunson

Steve had a bad habit of overworking himself. The store has been extremely busy lately, him and robin had been arguing, and he still hadn’t processed all the stress & trauma from defeating vecna. To say the least, he was stressed.

He was pretty good at not letting his stress show but Eddie could always tell. “Steve, you need to take some time off, you’re working yourself half to death!” Eddie didn’t often scold Steve, or anybody for that matter, but he knew Steve wouldn’t relax on his own. “I’m fine Eds, it’s just a bit of stress.” Eddie decided not to push him on it, at least not right now.

Steve got home after a long day at the shop. As soon as he walked into the small trailer he was met with Eddie sitting stiffly on the couch. “You okay, Eds?” He wasn’t used to coming home to Eddie being an adult. Typically he’d regress while waiting for Steve to get home. “I have a proposition.” Steve sat on the couch awkwardly but curious as to what the proposition was. “What is it?” “Well, you know how you usually care for me when I’m small? What if i took care of you for once..?” Steve was a bit caught off guard but not upset. He stared at the floor for a second, he had never regressed before, he was the one that took care of everyone else! Not the other way around. He wasn’t sure but this looked like it was important to Eddie so he decided he would do it.

“How do we start?” Steve asked, a little bit nervous. “Can I baby talk you? It helps get into the mindset.” Steve nodded. “Okay, well I think we should get my little boy into some comfy clothes, don’t you think so buddy. I can get you a bottle or a sippy with any drink your little heart desires.” Eddie cooed. Steve was so flustered. He’s never been treated like this, he was always the one doing this. Whether it was actually caregiving for Eddie’s own regression, or just being that parental figure for the kids. He was always the one caring.

“Can I wear one of your shirts?” Steve asked, still very shy. “Baby, of course you can. Will you need help changing, or will you be a big boy and do it on your own?” Steve kinda chuckled at the comment, since he’s literally said those exact words to Eddie. “I’ll be okay.” Steve said. Started walking to the bedroom.

“Before you go, do you want a bottle or sippy?” Eddie asked, and that really made Steve think. He figured a bottle would be too baby for him. So he chose the sippy. “I’ll do a sippy. And whatever kind of juice we have will be okay.” Steve then left to change.

Steve came back out in Eddie’s favourite Black Sabbath shirt, and a pair of Eddie’s basket ball shorts, not that Eddie plays basketball. but they’re comfy shorts. “Let’s get you set up with a cartoon and your sippy. Do you maybe want a stuffie? Or do you just wanna start with a show and sippy first?” Eddie asked.

“I’m not sure. I want this to work. I’m just really nervous about it all. I’ve never done anything like this.” Steve said, walking over to sit on his spot on the couch. They picked his movie, The Goonies. Steve actually really enjoyed this movie when it first came out. Him and Robin went to it together when it came out the year before.

Eddie grinned and picked him up. “Lets get you a paci, sweetie.” He carried them to his room. He grabbed a dinosaur stuffie and a blue paci with yellow glow in the dark stars. He slipped the paci into his mouth and handed him the stuffie, Steve however found Eddie’s hair to be a much more interesting toy.

As they were walking back to the couch Steve tugged on the back of Eddie’s shirt. Eddie shifted the boy so he could see his face. “What is it, baby?” Steve pointed at the kitchen, not really feeling like saying much. “Are you hungry, angel?” Steve nodded as they walked into the small kitchen. He tried to set him on the counter but Steve whined & clung onto him. “My clingy baby.” Eddie chuckled. “What do you wanna eat, angel?” Steve thought for a second and pointed at a bag of frozen dino nuggets. “Dino nuggies it is my sweet prince!” He put the nuggets in the microwave and filled Steve’s sippy with apple juice. He played peek-a-boo with the baby clinging to him until the nuggets were ready. He set them on a divided sesame street plate, putting some celery in one compartment and apple sauce in the other.

Steve was happily fed his lunch. He was in the headspace of probably around a five or six year old but was dreaming around three. He liked the extra care even if he didn’t really feel that small.

Everything was fine, Steve was happy, Eddie was glad to take care of his partner. Until he dropped his dropped his sippy. If he were an adult it would be no big deal but in his little brain it was a tragedy! He had gotten it all over Eddie’s favorite shirt! He started crying. What if Eddie was upset with him? Eddie would never wanna take care of him again!

The trailers tub wasn’t very big, so they preferred to do bath time at the Harrington house, but Steve’s parents were home for the first time in a long time, which meant Steve wasn’t there.

So they went to the bathroom, Steve insisted that he walked, Eddie did offer to carry him. Steve got a bit nervous about that too. “Do you want bubbles? And some toys?” Eddie asked. closing the door behind them. Steve nodded.

“I’ll get the water going and the bubbles in, you go into the cupboard and pick what toys you would like.” Eddie smiled, the way Eddie was speaking to Steve made him feel so relaxed.

Steve went into the cupboard and picked some toys. Eddie was very into ocean animals. mostly sharks, so he has a lot of shark figurines. Steve picked 3, a hammerhead, a great white, and a tiger shark. They were Eddie’s favourite. Once they were picked, the bath was ready for Steve to get in.

Eddie helped Steve get undressed, once again it made Steve feel weird, but he liked the way Eddie was caring for him, he felt safe and loved. Steve got in the water and relaxed in the warmth.

Sometimes, I see people who want to comment on fics, but are shy, nervous, or just don’t think they have anything to say. So, here’s the trick to low-effort but amazing comments:

- copy-paste your favourite line from the fic into your comment.

- add an emoji showing how it made you feel, or write what it made you think.

- That’s it. That’s the entire comment.

“But that’s so low-effort, won’t that disappoint the author?” Firstly: no, authors in general love any positive feedback. English teachers aren’t grading your comments. Authors will love that you bothered to say anything no matter what you say, so long as it isn’t mean. There’s no situation where this is a concern.

Secondly: authors love this kind of comment. It’s my favourite. It demonstrates that you engaged with the text, which s always super flattering, and additionally provides extremely useful data. We want to know what lines stood out to you the most, to be worth commenting on! We want to know what they made you feel or think! Again, this isn’t an English essay; pasting your favourite joke and attaching a laughing emoji is enough! This kind of data helps us improve as writers and demonstrates that our work made somebody think or feel something. It’s great.
