Morning light at the @grandcanyonnps This location was a challenge to shoot for a couple reasons. The shadows were deep, expansive, dark. The haze refused to clear completely and was highlighted by the harsh direct light. The view was expansive and yet I continuously found myself including huge chunks of sky even though the interest was 99% in the hardscape directly below the rim. The morning light changed so quickly but this also made it interesting to look back at a corner I’d just shot and see something completely different from 5 minutes prior. There was also the issue of focus (my own, not the camera’s). I was constantly distracted by the view in front of me that I would forget to compose in any meaningful way. The morning I shot this felt like an a mental challenge to focus on getting something I was happy with since I already had all the snapshots my heart desired from the day before. I love that I’m able to transfer images from our Fuji camera’s immediately after we’re done shooting so I do that quite often. In this case a glitch in the transfer resulted in some images looking like they’d already been edited and had some stylized looks.
