Not A Monolith

I know, I think it’s our natural inclination to be fine with things for a little while and then want a change, and cold is just one of those things. Not that I mind snow so much because we haven’t had much of it, but I just get tired of the cold pretty easily. Oh, got it! Nothing wrong with that though, doing it in manageable chunks. Then you’re not looking at a crap ton of boxes and wondering where to even start. That’s a nice area! I’m in the suburbs myself. Have you had the chance to explore a little bit yet?

That depends on where you’re coming from, POV-wise, I would argue. I mean, people seem fine with any kind of oppression for a long time and ideologies end up making even the oppressed think “oh, this isn’t so bad. Could be better, sure, but ...”. And, uh, I know that isn’t what you meant. But I just thought I’d offer the other perspective. The one were humans tend to resist change a lot. Though in terms of weather, I hate that in-between weather the most. Where it’s too cold without a jacket, but with it you start to melt the second you move around a little. That is just annoying. Suburbs? How is that for you? I think I’m a little scared of the burbs. They seem nearly too relaxing, does that make sense? And no, no exploring yet. That’s kind of on the agenda for today, actually. Anything you would recommend? 

Bossy?  Me?  No.  Never!  I just miss my work husband and best friend.  Can you blame me?  I am actually in London for a few days with my boyfriend.  I’ll be back before you miss me way too much.  How are things between you two, honestly?  Pilot season so I am going to casting calls and a few things here and there.

Dirty fucking liar, Drew, and you know it. You can’t lie to me, I know you too well. I mean, I know you miss me, obviously. But you’re still bossy, sorry, it’s just how it works. Sweet, holiday with the bobby-heads. Say hello to the Queen for me. Oh, damn, and honestly, get me one of those Chocolate Orange things. I had them once and they are epic. Oh we’re ... we’re parents, we put the kids first and don’t talk otherwise. She really kind of cut out the need for conversation after the court shit during the summer. So we’re parents and ... that’s it. 

The year definitely is moving rather quickly already, I have to say. Pretty soon the weather will be warming up - which I’m not complaining about in the least when I’m craving it right now. Hey Jesse, I’m Bill! It’s nice to meet you. Moving your stuff over gradually? It seems like a good method not to get overwhelmed with unpacking, that’s smart. Where did you end up moving in?

Hey, man, I am with you. A day or two or snow is always fun but that’s all we need. One upside of moving to LA, really, was no being buried under snow. Bill, man, awesome to meet you. And it’s less of a method and more a necessity because I just didn’t get around to actually packing everything yet. But it seems like a good idea. Uhm, Seascapes it’s called. And you?

I like to think it’s a good thing that the cold months go by quickly, you know? Because then spring is here and shit us much better. That’s a spirit, keeping it slow and steady, right? So many people get so overwhelmed moving in.

Gotta love how everyone in town has a new idea. Awesome think-tank, this place. So you’re all pumped for summer? Did you guys get hit by the big freeze at all? I mean, no one got it as bad as Chicago, I think, but I was stuck in LA, so what do I know. It’s great to meet you, bro. James, right? 

If you would have asked me that back in January, I would’ve disagreed; I feel like that month dragged on forever, but February is scootin’ along pretty quick, now. Hey, Jesse, good to meet you, I’m Zach! I’m sure Sarah didn’t sell you too tall of a tale, Bayview’s a great place to call home, and a lot better than L.A., even if I’m biased. Where in town did you end up finding a place?

Really? Then January around here must be magical, because for me the ball drop was the last slow thing. But since Sarah and other’s said here is the place to relax when your life is too crazy, I guess I see why January would be nice and slow. Hey Zach, man, great to meet. And nah, she kinda just gushed a lot and skipped anything specific, so I have no real idea what’s going on here. Oh, I ended up in, uh, Seascapes, I think? I wanted to hit downtown but figured if I really want to do the relax-thing, I should try and find a middle-ground between downtown and a cabin in the woods. So how long have you been here?

I think it’s also due to the fact that February is only 28 days instead of the typical 30-31. Hi, Jesse. I’m Janina. Can I just say that your part in Detroit: Become Human was insanely great? Easily my top game of 2018. Should’ve won GoTY but.. God of War was definitely up there, too. Welcome to town!

Good point, actually. Hadn’t even thought about it, but that might be part of it. My kids really drove it home for me. That we’re halfway through the month, I mean. Oh, damn, you’re a gamer girl? I love you - sorry, shot to soon, but hell yeah! I mean, I am a little too much into sports on my consoles ... or so some people say ... but I am so with you. Though the new God of War was awesome. For once not a little kid tag-on that was fucking annoying. Or not as annoying. Have to admit my guilty pleasure at the moment is State of Decay 2, which is so bad, but so much fun. Fuck, sorry, should I just wear my dorky geek-glasses or did you get the picture? Anyway, Janina, it’s great to meet a fellow gamer and I am pumped you loved DBH. 

Oh god, if you say that Christmas was yesterday my kids might start crying because they missed Christmas. Nope, it cannot be Christmas again yet. I’m still cleaning up from the tree. There’s always some glitter or leftover tinsel or a branch I find in some fucking random spot around the house. Well, Sarah is right! This place is pretty fucking amazing. It’s nice to meet you, Jesse. I’m Darren.

It’s the needles, isn’t it? They are definitely the worst thing about the tree. And it’s total bullshit that watering the tree helps. Or maybe I’ve been doing it wrong, but they’re still in the carpet. But I’m still pro-Christmas, can’t lie. So, tell me, what about this place is oh-so-amazing? Because Sarah was pretty tight-lipped about any specifics. Come on, bro, Darren, give me some intel here. Also, sweet to meet you. I saw you in that ... ah, fuck. That, that crime show? About Versace? Incredible work, man. 

I thought I was the only one who felt like this in all honesty, seems like Christmas really was just yesterday. Or last week and now it’s like mid February? so crazy right but I guess it’s probably going with the saying ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ or something like that. But hello hello Jesse! I am Emily, I absolutely loved watching you on Grey’s Anatomy, you were awesome. I would welcome you with open arms but I am actually out of the town at the moment so I can just welcome you from far away maybe? It’s lovely to meet you though!

Time just changes when you’re doing the whole adult thing. I see it with my kids. For them a week is like an eternity. Oh, speaking of Christmas and winter being over - did you guys get hit with the big freeze at all? Fun? That is, uhm, I’ll try and remember that the next time I’m doing my taxes. Exactly. You watch the ball drop and suddenly it’s just crazy, no break, sweaty and ... no damn idea why I just said sweaty. Ah, it’s not about not trusting her. I just haven’t had time to back all my crap yet. Between Greys and Silikon Valley I only managed the basics for now and every time I’m back in LA I’ll do some more packing. It’s sweet to meet you, Gina. You’re doing the virgin show, right? Tell me I remembered that right.

About damn time you listened to me, Jesse Williams!  I promise once I am home in Bayview I will come help you unpack so we can catch up.  How are you and the kiddos?
