SaraScara Astronomy Compatibility
In Genshin, astrology is real— so I think that the characters' birthdays are probably chosen with astrology in mind. I wanted to look into how compatible Capricorns (Wanderer) and Cancers (Kujou Sara) are according to astrology. Not really into the community so l'm not sure what the reliable sources are— I just searched it up on Google and read through the first 20 links. Here's a brief summary of my findings because I think it fits what I imagine the their dynamic would be like!
They're on opposite sides of the zodiac chart, so there's an 'opposites attract’ component, where Capricorns are blunt, logical, ambitious, responsible, hardworking, and determined while Cancers are passionate, sensitive, emotionally strong, compassionate and empathetic. They make up for each others' flaws while bound together by similar core values of trust, stability, security, peace, etc. Usually it takes some effort because of their different modes of communication, but if the two get to a point where they've worked things out (which is usually not unfathomable because they tend to be more mature/ fair-minded), it's an extremely strong relationship with near unbreakable trust and understanding.
Capricorn/ Cancer relationship can seem like a medieval romance drama which resolves ancestral trauma/ love stories, because they tend to carry their families’ residual emotions. There is karma/ debt to repay before they can leave the past and truly choose each other. If they can grasp the connection between them then there is an instinctive sense of familiarity, even if their circumstances seem completely different. Even though forms of communication may clash they can talk about anything and easily understand each others' emotions and passions without having to hide their real selves. They also have high expectations of each other based on mutual respect. Codependency is a possible issue.
Cancers and Capricorns are great friends and lovers. Capricorns are thoughtful while Cancers are supportive, so Cancers appreciate the thought that goes into the relationship on the part of the Capricorn and the Capricorn has the support to grow in all aspects of life due to the nurture of the Cancer. Cancers aren't too picky and are down for most reasonable activities the Capricorn might choose, boosting the Capricorn's confidence. Capricorns also are very distrustful. which Cancer complements well because Cancers tend to have nothing to hide due to their extremely high morals. Cancers have a good grasp on home life while Capricorns have a good grasp on public life, making them perfect complements in that regard.
Cancer needs to establish a deep emotional bond before going further physically, and Capricorns, who have a lot of patience, don’t need that as much but do prefer something based on deep emotions. So they naturally lend themselves to a slow burn where they build up an extremely deep connection before taking the next step, which in the end is an extremely sensual but passionate experience for both of them. Once Cancer is ready, Capricorn likes to take the lead, which Cancer can appreciate while reciprocating. They also can cuddle a lot, and the sense of home Cancer provides can thaw Capricorn's emotional state.
One source literally said if they don't like each other it's probably because they're hiding from their opposite inner selves, which is pretty in-line with what the "enemies” portion of SaraScara. Also both signs are protective, with Capricorn providing shelter and Cancer providing emotional security. The typical romance seems to be Capricorn being drawn to Cancer's love and Cancer being drawn to Capricorn’s reliable companionship. Then Cancer gets swept off their feet. That’s pretty much how I imagine it too— Wanderer beginning to want the immense loyalty/ love/ care he's gotten a taste of through their friendship, having a small struggle to accept his feelings, and then in a reserved yet passionate way going for it. Sara finds her intense loneliness being slowly eased by his presence as she slowly falls in love. Both signs take love very seriously, so once they are together it's pretty much for life, as both signs will work together to get through anything once they’re committed.
The main cons seem to be that the differences, if not handled properly, can cause them to push each other away. Cancer is sentimental and may feel alienated by Capricorn's lack of expression, while Capricorn is overwhelmed by Cancer's emotional dependence. The same goes for their logical approach versus intuitive approach to life, which can be grating to each other. In addition, Capricorn tends to be career-oriented. which can cause Cancer to feel neglected. If Cancer expresses this, Capricorn may feel unsupported in their ambitions.
I think that's an issue I've thought of while imagining the Scaramouche version of SaraScara, where he prioritizes becoming a god and she has to work around that while he's absolutely annoyed how her devotion to the Shogun means she follows him around no matter how he treats her. Obviously in the regular version, I imagine that once they work through everything and move to Sumeru, Sara is the breadwinner who never puts her career over him and he basically takes care of her like it's his job.
Another thing I've always thought is that Wanderer would have trouble expressing if he wants affection, but would have an easier time providing affection to someone who needs it. Apparently Capricorns love to feel helpful and Cancers very obviously have that emotional need. So that fits how I imagine their dynamic— he recognizes that Sara needs affection and provides it more easily because it doesn't make him feel like the needy one. But then once that happens enough, he feels safe enough to openly ask for affection when he needs it as well, because he's given enough of his affection to justify asking for hers.
Capricorn and Cancer are both willing to work hard, are both leaders, are both ardent, and are both initiators. Capricorn leads Cancer to success and shows them more of the world beyond their bubble (their reality check, so to say), and Cancer is the one to help Capricorn appreciate their achievements and memories (like how I think Sara would help him appreciate his current life in Sumeru more.) The best relationship is one where they learn to respect each others' strength instead of trying to change the other, as the clash can be explosive. As long as they do that, the vibe they give off to others is one of solidity, where it's clear they're a strong couple. They would make amazing business partners.
I would never go up to an irl couple and judge them based on their zodiacs, but given that the people who created these characters probably took astrology into consideration, it's interesting to look at! In a nutshell. the first 20 websites about Capricorn/Cancer compatibility on Google say that if the two signs can take time to work through their differences, they can have a near-fantastical relationship where they complete one another and even resolve each others' family issues (very oddly specific and accurate to the ship??). That is very very similar to my own thoughts on the ship, which did not take astrology into consideration, so l just feel even more confident in my characterization of them.
